Kill Dil - Movie Review

Every human being has one thing that he or she can kill for. There are times when one has to choose between his instinct to kill and his humanitarian feeling. How does one cope with one's upbringing around the evil, and one's love in the good world? Our lives are usually dependant on the survival of others. Shaad Ali's Kill Dill is a story of four individuals whose lives are intertwined with each other in one way or another. Though there is a fair share of cinematic liberty, like Dev (Ranveer Singh) and Tutu (Ali Zafar), who are local goons have their thing for leather jackets and cool eye gear, and have friends who are the cream crowd of the society. However, the idea tends to give you indigestion; you lap it up with much ease.

Kill Dil is a comic and edgy rom-com movie. Once upon a time in North India, two killers - Dev (Ranveer Singh) and Tutu (Ali Zafar), roamed free. Abandoned when young and vulnerable, Bhaiyaji (Govinda) gave them shelter and nurtured them to kill. All is normal in their lives until destiny throws free spirited Disha (Parineeti Chopra) into the mix. What follows is a game of defiance, deception and love.

Kill Dil is movie that has a plethora of awesome performances. To start with Ranveer Singh who plays Dev, a local goon and killer in the film, is done very well in the film. He looks and portrays the character with a lot of ease. That is probably because the character is very close to him in the real world. The crazy character and charming persona melts the audience heart. He emotes very well in emotionally draining scenes, and tears seem to be naturally flowing from his eyes, whenever he cries in the film, which is quite often.

Parineeti Chopra, who plays Disha, Dev's love interest in the film, surprisingly looks utterly glamourous in the film. Often ridiculed for her weight, she carries off her weight with a lot of grace. She has been wearing a lot of glamourous outfits in the film. Like she had stated in one of her interviews that she finally feels like a heroine, and she actually looks like one. She only plays a reason for the main conflict of the film, and doesn't do much other than making a sweet romantic angle.

Ali Zafar plays Tutu, who is Dev's friend, more like an elder brother. Ali Zafar has conveniently broken away his rom-com image. He looks very good on screen and has done a very good job indeed.

The Baap of everyone quite literally is Govinda in the film. He brings in so much menace on screen that one actually tends to hate him. He is playing the villain, Bhaiyaji, in the film. He is not shooting people down, or doing any evil act, but his expressions and dialogue delivery make you hate him. His acting, dancing, expression, etc. all of it is par excellence.

The music of the film is very engaging. Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy has done a very good job with the music of Kill Dil. The title track, Kill Dil and happy budday are foot tapping numbers. Govinda and Parineeti Chopra dance superbly in bol beliya. The romantic number sajde is beautifully picturized.

The film has its loop holes as well. It has a done to death plot & difficult to digest characterization of the two boys. Editing has been crisp with a total run time of exactly 120 mins.  All in all it is an entertaining film, and a must watch for the performances purely. So this weekend, do you go with your Dil or are you ready to Kill?
