Kangana Ranaut voiced her dismay that Lata Mangeshkar's name was not included in the 'In Memoriam' segment of the 2022 Grammys, which took place on Sunday.

The Tanu Weds Manu actress wrote on Instagram,

"We must take strong stands against any local awards that claim to be international but ignore and intentionally sideline legendary artists because of their race or ideologies... both Oscar and Grammy failed to pay tribute to Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar ji... our media should totally boycott these biassed local events that claim to be global awards".

She further said,

"We should reject these snooty western prizes".

The 64th Annual Grammy Awards' 'In Memoriam' portion paid tribute to various late musical legends, including Stephen Sondheim and Taylor Hawkins. The late great Indian vocalist Lata Mangeshkar, however, was not included in the honourable section.

Mangeshkar was also left out of last week's Oscars 2022 'In Memoriam' segment.

On Monday, a number of fans of the legendary singer expressed their disappointment on Twitter. While Mangeshkar was not named in the 'In Memoriam' section, she is listed on the Grammy's website in a thorough list.

The British Academy Film and Television Awards' (BAFTA) 'In Memoriam' segment honoured India's late nightingale last month.

Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6th of this year. She was 92 years old at the time.

She has a valid point.
However, I personally think the “Oscars” and “Grammys” are a mere circus compared to the eternal greatness that is Lata Mangeshkar. They wouldn’t be able to appreciate her greatness even if they tried. As they say in Hindi I believe: “Bandar kya jane adrakh ka swaad.” I don’t think Indians need the validation from these institutions. Which is also why I believe the ridiculous name “Bollywood” needs to be purged from the vocabulary. Using the “woke” phrase so prevalent currently in the US – Indians need to “cancel” the repulsive word “Bollywood” and replace it with something more respectful and sensible for the Indian movie industry.
