Javed Akhtar On Ending Legal Dispute With Kangana Ranaut: "Apology Chaiyeh Thi, Jo Mil Gai"

All is now settled between Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar. The two recently posed together for a happy picture, confirming that their long-running defamation case has been resolved through mediation. Kangana shared the news on social media, praising Javed Akhtar and revealing that he has agreed to write songs for her next directorial venture. In a recent chat with Aaj Tak, Javed Akhtar spoke about the settlement.

Yes, the cases have been settled. She has taken back her words and allegations. She has assured that she won’t repeat them again. She apologised for all the trouble caused to me and also withdrew her case. Maine paise toh mange nahi the, apology chaiyeh thi, jo mil gai.

When asked if he felt relieved, the lyricist responded with humor, “Nahi, ab dekhta hun. Koi doosri pareshani mul lunga (No, now I will see. I might take on some other challenge).”

For those who don’t know, their legal battle began in 2020 when Javed Akhtar filed a complaint, claiming that Kangana had made defamatory statements against him in a TV interview, damaging his reputation. After years of legal proceedings, both have now decided to move on amicably.

Kangana also shared a picture with Javed Akhtar on Instagram, where both appeared cheerful after reaching a resolution. She praised him for his kindness and generosity during mediation. She wrote, “Today Javed ji and I have resolved our legal matter (defamation case) through mediation. Javed ji has been very kind and gracious during the process, and he has also agreed to write songs for my next directorial.”

Now that their legal dispute is in the past, it looks like both Kangana and Javed Akhtar are ready for a fresh start and new collaborations.
