Janhvi Kapoor's Good Luck Jerry slated for an OTT release?

Theatres have started to open up and while many films are slated for a release, some continue to release on OTT, and it looks like Janhvi Kapoor's Good Luck Jerry is the latest of one such films. Among other OTT releases ahead, there is Akshay Kumar’s Mission Cinderella, Vidya Balan-Shefali Shah’s Jalsa, Alia Bhatt’s Darlings, and the late Rishi Kapoor’s Sharmaji Namkeen.

Reports have it that the filmmaker Aanand L Rai has got a very lucrative deal from Disney+Hotstar and he’s seriously contemplating finalising it. The report mentioned that the paperwork will happen once the finances are zeroed upon and that Rai believes Good Luck Jerry will get a better and bigger release on OTT as compared to theatres, which are already packed with big-budget movies scheduled in the coming months. The report stated how small and medium-budget Hindi films have all underperformed at the box office so far, and Rai doesn’t want his film to meet the same fate. And hence, he has decided to release the film on OTT as that would give it a wider release.

Meanwhile, Good Luck Jerry will be Janhvi Kapoor’s second release on OTT post Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl. As for Aanand L Rai, it would be the third production taking the OTT route after Haseen Dillruba and Atrangi Re, both of which did decently with the audiences.

As for Good Luck Jerry, it is the official remake of Nayanthara’s 2018 Tamil crime-comedy, Kolamavu Kokila. Directed by debutant Siddharth Sengupta and written by Pankaj Matta, the Hindi version will also feature Deepak Dobriyal, Meeta Vashishtha, Neeraj Sood, and Sushant Singh in the pivotal roles. It revolves around a happy-go-lucky young girl, who finds herself in the middle of a drug racket to earn some quick bucks however, her entire family gets involved eventually. And how things follow ahead with a bunch of twists and turns is what makes for the rest of the story.
