Sunny Deol returned to the big screen with high hopes for Jaat, but the box office numbers haven’t matched the frenzy of Gadar 2. Released on April 10, Jaat collected ?9.50 crore on day one. While the response is decent for any regular release, it falls short when compared to Gadar 2’s roaring ?40 crore opening day in 2023.
According to Sacnilk.com, Jaat recorded a 12.89% occupancy in the Hindi belt, with Jaipur and Chennai showing the strongest turnout. The film, which also stars Randeep Hooda, Viineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, and Urvashi Rautela, has opened to a mixed yet hopeful reception.
For comparison, Salman Khan’s recent film Sikandar had a ?26 crore opening despite being criticised for its weak plot. On the other hand, Gadar 2 not only opened at ?40 crore but went on to collect ?691 crore during its theatrical run.
Directed by Gopichand Malineni and backed by People Media Factory and Mythri Movie Makers, Jaat is a high-octane action drama. The film deals with themes like justice, corruption, and power politics, set against a gripping backdrop of societal conflict.
Speaking about the importance of audience love, Randeep Hooda said at a recent promotional event, “The box office collection shows how many people went to watch the movie. When the collection is high, it means that so many people showed up, and that's the biggest reward for any artist.”
Viineet Kumar Singh added, “Cinema is made for the people, and when they like it, that's the ultimate validation. Whether it's a hit or not, the audience's reaction is the most important factor.”
India Forums rated Jaat 3.5 stars, praising its strong message. “At its core, Jaat is about justice—personal, societal, and spiritual. It takes on corruption, power politics, and the silence of the system with a burning intensity.”
While Jaat hasn’t broken records yet, its content and strong performances may help it grow over the weekend. As the film continues its run, fans are still rooting for Sunny Deol’s punch to land hard at the box office.
