‘I’ve danced for more than 20 years, if I don’t..’: Sanam Johar on his FIRST dance sequence in GHKKPM

Sanam Johar, known for his exceptional dancing and choreography on various reality shows, recently made his acting debut on television with Star Plus' Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin. He portrays Rituraj, a celebrated rock star with a massive fan following. While Rituraj initially appeared as a positive lead, the character has now taken on a grey shade, allowing Sanam to showcase both shades of a character on screen.

Though Sanam is renowned for his dance skills in real life, as Rituraj in the show, we had only seen him in his rock star avatar. However, during the recent Gondhal ceremony sequence, viewers were treated to his first dance performance in the show. Given his background, this moment held special significance for him. Speaking exclusively to India Forums, Sanam shared his excitement and emotions about finally getting to express himself through dance on screen.

Saman shared, “I’m very excited that it’s about to come on television—that I’m going to perform in Gondhal ceremony. And yes, the idea and the emotion behind the dance are a little different from what I expected, but it’s going to be fun.

Actually, when I did the dance, our director sir, our creative head, all of them were so happy with how fast it went. You know, I learnt the choreography in 5 minutes, then did one take, and another just for slow-mos. So yeah, they were really happy, they were proud of me.

And I just felt, I thought to myself—I’ve danced for more than 20 years, agar main dance bhi accha nahi karunga, toh phir toh laanat hai mujh par (laughs). So I was confident that I’d be able to deliver this dance performance for Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin.

So yeah, I was excited, and that’s why I was confident too. I had a great time shooting the dance piece. We wrapped my part in just about 45 minutes. So yeah, I was really happy.”

For those who are unaware, the recent Gondhal ceremony in Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin was a significant moment. During the couple’s dance, Neil injured himself, forcing him to leave mid-performance. Taking advantage of the situation, Rituraj mocked Neil and stepped in to dance with Teju. However, Teju soon pulled away, leaving Rituraj to finish the dance on his own. In the upcoming track, the drama is expected to intensify during a hospital party organised for the newlyweds.
