Speaking from Chandigarh where she attended the premiere of the show and has been staying for the past 10 days, one cannot miss Priyal's upbeat tone because the film has been received quite well. "Everyone had very good things to say about the film at the premiere yesterday and I have been told that audiences in Delhi have made advance bookings for the next three days and the film is houseful till then. I'm waiting for the box office reports in Chandigarh too."
Priyal attributes the positive feedback to the film
to its very youthful look and feel and the great chemistry she shares
with her lead hero Gitaz Bindrakhia, the son of legendary Punjabi singer
Surjit Bindrakhia. "The film is based on youngsters and Gitaz and I
shared very good chemistry on screen. Also, usually girls in Punjabi
films do not cosy up to their heroes on screen but I am not so narrow
minded. I am quite bold and don't shy away from very romantic and
intimate scenes and youngsters seem to like the romance." According to
Priyal, the fact that Gitaz already has a huge fan following up North
will help get audiences into the theatre in hundreds.
Back home in Mumbai, the last daily show Priyal did
was Dekha Ek Khwaab on Sony TV, after which one only saw her in episodic
appearances in Gumraah (Channel V), Saavdhan India @ 11 (Life OK) and Yeh
Hai Aashiqui. Priyal kept dailies at bay to concentrate on her film.
"Once you commit yourself to a daily soap there is no way you can get
out of it no matter how important your other work is. I knew that Just U
& Me would be releasing soon and I wanted to be available for
everything related to the film. For instance, if I had a show on air, I
wouldn't have been able to attend the premiere of my own film." Even
now, Priyal wants to choose only those shows that she will find
interesting and one medium is not a priority over the other for her. So
whether it is a television show, a Punjabi film or a Bollywood film she
will only sign what she finds interesting.
Priyal is also not keen on struggling for work in
the industry and has taken a practical approach for her career. While
she does want to be a part of the showbiz industry it will not be
restricted only to acting. "I plan to go abroad to study fashion
designing if I don't get any interesting work here - that will still be
related to the industry." But the young actress has another reason for
that; studying abroad will give her the opportunity to explore the
world. "I can't just take off for months on a holiday abroad," she giggles, "So I can use my course as leverage
to see the world." And for this plan she has given herself time till
April 2014. "I don't want to waste time and wait endlessly to get a good
project. If it doesn't happen by April or May next year, I will take
off. That's also the time when admissions in institutes begin."
On work front, Priyal has had several offers from
Bollywood and television both. "I am in talks for a show on Channel V
produced by Endemol. If that happens great because it does seem
interesting. If not, guess some other good project will come my way,"
she says confidently.
