Known for her role in Ek Duje Ke Vaaste 2Kanikka Kapur made her big-screen debut with Dono a few months ago. Being in a Barjatya world is always a dream in several ways, but these films have always been marked several times for their portrayal of women or certain norms.

Nevertheless, in Dono, she wasn't marketed as the lead but managed to create a huge splash with her role and was loved and appreciated.

In an exclusive conversation with us, we asked if she had any apprehension about not being marketed as the lead and also expecting a dreamy proposal just like she had in the climax of the film, Dono.

Q. In spite of not being marketed as the lead for Dono, the film is pretty much about you. When the film happened to you, was there an apprehension about it, or you had faith in the material?

That is exactly what actually happened. So I knew from the beginning that I was not going to be marketed because it's the launch of these two (Rajveer Deol & Paloma). Right. Of course. But when I read the script, I loved the climax. And in fact, the climax that you see was added later. That change of scene was added later. So, once that scene was changed, I was quite satisfied with my character. And I was, as an actor, then you have to pick what you want more. Do you want to lead, or do you want to play a strong character? And I feel like at the end of the day, you're not marketed well, but if the film is being marketed and it's a film, they do recognize talent. So I was just, I'm just like, that is what I'm hoping that people see talent. I wanted to do the film because I feel like I really liked my character, and the climax is, by the way, my favourite part of the film.

As an actor, you have to pick what you want more. Do you want to lead, or do you want to play a strong character? And I feel like at the end of the day, you're not marketed well, but if the film is being marketed and it's a film, they do recognize talent.

Q. There is apparently a very, you know, dreamy proposal in the film with the storyline that forms. And again, that's very Barjatia-esque. And that's very, you know, like, it's a dream. So, as a person, you know, what would be your ideal kind of proposal?

So, I used to think that I wanted a very simple proposal, and I didn't want a lot of work. But when I actually shot for that proposal, it felt good that internally, I think Kanikka was secretly wanting a grand proposal now. Of course. And now, and I want, maybe I want something grander now. That's what these films do to you, right? You live in that dreamy world, and somehow, you want it to happen.
