Post Singhasan Battisi, Siddharth Arora is all geared up to charm the audience in a completely different avatar with Krishan Kanhaiya. He has a completely different look and his character is something which has not been seen on Indian Television. We at India-forums, speak to the good looking actor on his excitement to be a part of the show.

To start off with, tell us what prompted you to take up Krishan Kanhaiya?

I have always tried doing something different from what I have done in the past. I am not interested in doing saas-bahu sagas. There are a very few male centric shows and I have always opted to do a show out of those few. I took up this show because the concept was male-centric like my earlier shows Singhasan Battisi, Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch Kaha and Mukti Bandhan.

Please elaborate on your look on Krishan Kanhaiya.

The look for this show is something I have not carried on television. Unlike my prior show, Singhasan Battisi, I had to cut my hair short and go clean shaved for the character. It was funny because I could not recognize myself after I donned the look!

How is playing Krishan a challenge?

When an actor plays God, he cannot make mistakes. The primary challenge I encountered was that I have to portray Krishan in a way which he has not been seen on television till date. We have seen the God as a father, guide and mentor but not as a friend. Maintaining a blend between contemporary and convention is very difficult. With the help of my director, Ashwini Dhir, I have overcome this challenge.

What training did you undergo to get into the skin of your character?

Well, I did not take inspiration from any actor who has donned Krishna. I read the Bhagvat Gita and I will interpret the same through my acting.

Has essaying the role of Krishan changed you as a person in any way?

I have shot for a quite a few episodes for now so I guess the transition will take time if it has to happen but yes, reading Bhagvat Gita has brought in a slight change subconsciously in the way I deal with situations now.

Are you a believer of Krishna in real life?

I am not a follower of Lord Krishna. I believe in God but not the rituals. In my view, I would rather help the needy than spend a lot of money on buying expensive garlands for idol worship. But yes, I would like to mention that I find a very strong connect with Hanuman.

Please share your experiences if you ever felt the presence of God in your life...

With regards to experience, I hail from the city of temples, Banaras.
Being an MBA, I was offered a job in ICICI for which we had to undergo training at Kohinoor hotel, right opposite to Siddhivinayak temple. The best 5 of 32 trainees would be posted in the Mumbai branch while the rest would be posted in other cities. I primarily came to Mumbai to become an actor and ICICI was a stepping stone to live in the city of dreams.
At this time I went to Siddhivinayak, prayed to be one of the 5 trainees and my prayers were answered.

Siddharth, we wish you luck as the modern Krishna!
