Today BollyCurry gathers along with fans in order to celebrate the birthday of a graceful and talented actress, one who is known for both her effortless dancing and entertaining expressions. Guessed yet? We are of course talking of none other than Bollywood's "Dhak Dhak Girl", Madhuri Dixit Nene!
Dixit was born in Mumbai on 15th May, 1968 to Marathi speaking parents, Shankar and Snehlata Dixit. She completed her schooling at Divine Child High School and then went on to graduated from Mumbai University in Microbiology.
Debuting in Bollywood with a Rajshri Productions movie, Abodh (1984), the film failed to do well at the Box Office, despite garnering positive reviews from critics. This lead to Dixit participating in a series of movies such as Swati (1986), Mohre (1987) and Hifazat (1987), all which met the met the same fate as her debut. Her first successful venture arrived in the form of the blockbuster Tezaab (1988) and since then, there was no looking back for the actress. Her stint with success continued with movies such as Ram Lakhan (1989), Prem Pratigyaa (1989), Tridev (1989), Parinda (1989), Dil (1990), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hai Kaun (1994), Raja (1995), Mrityudand (1997), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), Pukar (2000) and Devdas (2002).
The star with a heartwarming smile then took a break from Bollywood in order to concentrate on her personal life and spend time with her husband, Dr. Shriram Madhav Nene, who she married on 17th October, 1999. The couple now have two sons; Arin (born in 2003) and Raayan (born in 2005).
Dixit returned to Hindi cinema with Aaja Nachle in 2007. Due to controversies surrounding the title song of the film, "Aaja Nachle", the movie failed to do well at the Box Office and received mixed reviews from critics. However, the songs went on to become instant hits and Dixit's dance was much appreciated. Taking another break where she focused on being a judge on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, Dixit made another return firstly with the item number "Ghagra" in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) and then in Dedh Ishqiya (2014) and Gulaab Gang (2014). Both movies failed to perform at the Box Office but Dixit's work was applauded by one and all.
Holding the record for the highest number of Filmfare nominations for Best Actress awards, Dixit has won four of them, one Best Supporting Actress award and a Padma Shri Award from India's Government.
Apart from cinema, Dixit is also known for her contributions to social issues. In 2009, she performed for NDTV Toyata - a nationwide campaign for environmental issues. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador and a patron for "Emrald of Elephants" - a charity project organised to safeguard the Asian elephants. Also in 2012, Dixit interacted with cancer affected children on World Cancer Day organised by Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd.
