Zee Theatres play, Purush is about breaking stereotypes and standing up against the powerful who are arm twisting the powerless using any means possible. With politics and caste systems as the background to the story, Purush is a play which is a mirror to the society and the rules made by its people. This play is the recreation of the famous Marathi play by the same name made by Jaywant Dalvi, a reputed name in the Theatre fraternity. This is also a National School of Drama classics.

The two main characters in this play are Ashutosh Rana and Gulki Joshi who are playing very strong roles respectively.

We at India Forums had an interaction with the female lead of the play, Gulki Joshi. The gorgeous actress is currently seen as S.H.O Haseena Malik in SAB TV’s Maddam Sir.

Here are the few excerpts from the interview:-

1)How did you start your career in the industry?

Well, I got introduced to Theatre for the first time in my college days itself when I was studying in Mithibai. My acting journey started way before entering the entertainment industry. I debuted with Television on Zee TV with Phir Subah Hogi in the year 2012. After stepping into the industry there is no looking back. I have done 5-6 shows on Television. I also featured in a movie that was released last year. I keep on doing Theatre when I get good offers. So far, It has been an incredible journey for me.

2)Tell us something about Purush.

Purush, I feel as an actor, has been one of the most difficult and emotionally challenging role to play. I am playing the role of a strong-headed girl who can do anything. Things take a turn when my character gets raped. From being a rape victim to picking up the pieces again and reviving yourself again, playing the role has been extremely challenging but it was fun. I have learnt and explored a lot. Purush I feel is a timeless play. It depicts the problems between a man and woman that can take place in any era, at any time and amidst any situation. The play narrates the tale of how a man’s ego can go to any extent and can break a woman emotionally.

3)Tell us something about your character in the play.

Like I have already said, I play a strong headed activist, Ambika. She knows what is wrong and would always stand up for herself and others no matter what happens. I relate a lot to my character in the play. I also feel Ambika has been my most challenging role so far.

4)What do you miss the most? Theatre or TV.

I really miss shooting for Maddam Sir. I miss going to Theatre, being on stage and living my character for more than two hours. But more than anything I miss having panipuri (laughs)

5) How are you coping up with the ongoing lockdown?

Honestly, being locked down in my house is not something I am coping up with. Whenever I am not working I like to stay at home itself, doing my own thing. Earlier I used to have 2-3 hours with myself and now I have 24 hours, That’s the only change.
