DJ Bolli Speaks: Dancing In Sarees
But the biggest sham Bollywood brings to the world is this - how in the world do the heroines manage to dance in sarees?

People say that one needs to suspend their disbelief when they watch a Bollywood movie. The illogical twists, the melodrama, the hero who has been shot multiple times in the chest yet fighting at full strength, the location changes without ever having seen the characters take any transportation, among others - it all leaves the audience clueless and new viewers scratching their heads.
But the biggest sham Bollywood brings to the world is this - how in the world do the heroines manage to dance in sarees?
And
this DJ Bolli is not talking about slow-numbers where the heroine is
swaying in the hero's arms, lost in each other's eyes a la like the
infamous gazebo scene in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. No, not even the
numbers where the heroine simply swings her hips while the hero runs
about and jumps about in the Swiss alps, like in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. (Also a contention - how are they in sleeveless sarees in the snow? HOW?)
DJ
Bolli is talking about the fast-paced numbers with full-on intensive
choreography, where the heroine is as into the beat as the hero. This DJ
is talking about Madhuri Dixit Nene and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in "Dola Re Dola" (Devdas), or Sonakshi Sinha in "Saree Ke Fall Se" (R...Rajkumar), or Deepika Padukone in "Lungi Dance" (Chennai Express), or even Gauahar Khan in "Jhalla Walla" (Ishaqzaade). Not only are these actresses capable of dancing in their heels, they move so easily in their sarees
with nary a slip or stumble! The cloth remains on their shoulder, their
pleats do not fall - they make the impossible look possible!
How do they do it? Is it CGI? Are the pleats stapled to their petticoats? Is the pallu part of the saree glued to their body? What is their secret? And why have they not shared it with the rest of the world?
They have the world over believing that women are capable of running and dancing in sarees
and heels, but DJ Bolli can say this safely - I have tried out this
hypothesis and found it to be incorrect - unless you want to fall flat
on your face, or your bum, and possibly break something? Avoid dancing
in sarees. As simple as that.
What have
been your experiences with this? Do you know someone who can perform the
miracle, that is, dancing in sarees? Or do you, like me, believe that
this is only possible through movie magic? Let us know, and DJ Bolli
will be back with more opinions soon.
