'Gadar 2', the sequel to the 2001 super hit 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,' is officially 80 percent finished. Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel will reprise their roles in 'Gadar 2.'

Taran Adarsh, a film critic and trade analyst, announced the news on his official Twitter account. He also shared a photo of the sequel's cast, which included Sunny wearing a sikh turban and Ameesha wearing a dupatta.

SUNNY DEOL, ANIL SHARMA, AND ZEE: 'GADAR 2' IS 80% COMPLETE... After the #Lucknow shoot, #Gadar2 - the sequel to #Gadar starring #SunnyDeol, #AmeeshaPatel, and #UtkarshSharma - is 80 percent complete... #AnilSharma directed... #ZeeStudios and #AnilSharmaProductions produced."

'Gadar 2' will be directed by Anil Sharma and produced by Zee Studios and Anil Sharma Productions, according to the announcement. Anil Sharma also directed the first instalment of the Gadar film series.

Sunny Deol, an actor and politician, played Tara Singh in the 2001 film 'Gadar,' who marries Sakina (Ameesha Patel) during India's partition in 1947. Sakina and her father live happily ever after until Sakina's father forces her to return to Pakistan. The subsequent events were depicted in the film, which received mixed reviews from critics.

Despite this, Gadar's box office take at the time was Rs. 768.8 million. The film was made on a Rs.190 million budget and competed with Ashutosh Gowarikar's 'Lagaan.'

'

Gadar' was the second-highest grossing film in the 1990s, following 'Hum Apke Hain Koun...' 'Gadar,' according to BoxOfficeIndia, is the second-most watched Hindi film of all time since the 1990s, with over 50 million footfalls in India.

'Gadar' was loosely based on the life of Boota Singh, a Sikh ex-British Army soldier who served under Lord Mountbatten's command during World War II. His life story is well-known and documented for rescuing and marrying a Muslim girl during India's Partition.

However, when the same girl (Zainab) is deported to Pakistan and backs down due to family pressure, Boota Singh kills himself by jumping in front of a train. This is yet another contented story.

Audiences will have to wait to find out what 'Gadar 2' is all about. The movie is scheduled to release in cinemas in the year 2022
