Filmmaker Mysskin, known for his offbeat storytelling, may have revealed more than intended about his upcoming film Train during a recent event in Chennai. Speaking at a session focused on helping aspiring filmmakers understand the industry, he gave away key elements from the film's plot — including its emotional core and what appears to be the climax.
Currently in production, Train stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead. While the project has generated quiet anticipation, Mysskin’s recent comments have now thrown an unexpected spotlight on the storyline.
Recalling his personal connection to trains, the director said, “I have travelled by train at least 300-600 times. Think about it, and it feels like a monstrous worm carrying children in its belly, stumbling along and taking them to wherever they need. That’s how I felt when I was a child.”
It’s this childhood perception that became the metaphorical backbone of Train, he explained. In the film, the train represents not just a mode of transport, but a vessel of human experiences — of arrivals, departures, and emotional turns.
Mysskin didn’t stop at that. He offered a detailed account of Vijay Sethupathi’s character arc. According to him, the protagonist is on a path to end his life. Burdened by emotional weight, he boards a train with the intent of visiting his wife’s grave and planting a seedling — a final gesture before death. But during the journey, something shifts.
Inside what he refers to as the “monster’s stomach,” life unfolds in unexpected ways. The character meets strangers, faces disruptions, and finds meaning in fleeting moments. “The experience of his journey teaches him the value of life. How he thinks, had I not come on this journey, met these people, had this experience, he wouldn’t have learnt the value of life…that’s my climax,” Mysskin said.
Train features a strong ensemble including Nasser, Shruti Haasan, Yugi Sethu, Narain, and K.S. Ravikumar. In a rare move, Mysskin is also composing the film’s music.
Though there’s been no official response from the production side, the director’s openness has sparked debate: was it a marketing strategy, or simply an accidental overshare? Either way, it has certainly raised curiosity.
