With Despatch already making waves at film festivals, Shahana shares her excitement about the film's journey and the response it has garnered so far.
The role was slightly smaller, but the depth of the character, the journey, and the arc through the scenes still spoke to me. That's what made me say yes, and I'm very grateful that I had the instinct to do so

What made you say yes to Despatch and your character in Despatch?
The lure of working with Kanu Behl and getting to work opposite Manoj was definitely enough of a bait. But yes, there was some hesitation because I was eager to work with both of them for the first time in a bigger capacity. The role was slightly smaller, but the depth of the character, the journey, and the arc through the scenes still spoke to me. That's what made me say yes, and I'm very grateful that I had the instinct to do so.
Despatch has been showcased at multiple film festivals – How has the response been so far? And what benefit do you feel these festivals add to your film's promotions?
I think festivals end up being a way for the film to be experienced by cinephiles, people from the industry, and those who come from different parts of the world to actually watch films at the festivals. It also creates initial buzz around the film for certain audiences. For example, a film like Despatch, which is coming directly to OTT, is also an opportunity for people to watch it on the big screen. It's been really great to receive such positive feedback. I think everyone has been moved by the film, and the performances have been appreciated and liked. Now, it's great to put it out there for the rest of the world to watch in the comfort of their own homes.
I'm very greedy and curious to work with Kanu again on anything
- Shahana Goswami
How did shooting with Kanu impact you as an actor? How did his vision shape your understanding of your character and the story as a whole?
Kanu's a very sensitive, deep, and passionate director. He has a passion for his characters, the story, and the unsaid aspects of interactions between the characters and their dynamics. He has a very specific way of working, going into depth, which I really appreciate. His workshop process is intense and engaging, allowing you to connect with yourself as an actor first, then explore the character individually, then with your co-actor, and work through the scenes. You build up towards the motivations, background, and the emotional groundwork that leads up to the scene. These were the aspects that were really great. His way of shooting multiple takes also makes you explore the character emotionally and psychologically, beyond just the initial responses and spontaneity. I mostly relied on initial instincts and the spontaneity of the first takes, so that was something really great for me to learn. I'm very greedy and curious to work with him again on anything.
