Deepika Padukone’s powerful clapback after director mocks her motherhood journey

Deepika Padukone recently opened up about her journey into motherhood and how life has changed since the birth of her daughter, Dua. In a heartfelt interview with Marie Claire, the actress shared her experiences of balancing work with parenting, shedding light on a moment when her choice to prioritise her child received a not-so-subtle jab from a film director.

During the interview, Deepika recalled how a director reacted when she told him she couldn’t meet as she was spending time with Dua. His response, “Oh, looks like she's taking motherhood very seriously” left her questioning whether it was meant as praise or sarcasm. Reacting to it, she said, “Yeah, of course I am!” Her words reflect the strength and clarity with which she now approaches her life and decisions post-motherhood.

Deepika and her husband Ranveer Singh welcomed their baby girl, Dua Padukone Singh, in September 2024. The couple had announced their pregnancy earlier in February and later revealed their daughter's name in a touching social media post, writing, "Dua: meaning a Prayer. Because She is the Answer to our Prayers."

Deepika admitted that things have changed for her in many ways since becoming a mother. She’s currently allowing her personal and professional life to evolve organically. She revealed that both she and Ranveer are completely in sync when it comes to parenting, and that being present for every part of Dua's early life is their top priority, criticism or not. “Whether it's the films I choose or the way I live, I follow my instinct. Beyond that, what others think doesn’t matter,” she said.

Interestingly, Deepika was working through her pregnancy. She filmed parts of Kalki 2898 AD and Singham Again while expecting. She was also seen earlier this year in Fighter. While she hasn’t officially announced her next project, buzz suggests she may star alongside Shah Rukh Khan in King and Prabhas in Spirit.
