Deepika Padukone says everything shifted after ‘caring for this little thing’ as she talks life after baby Dua

Deepika Padukone has always been a celebrated actress, but her recent experience as a mother has brought significant changes to her life. At the WAVES 2025 summit held at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai, the actress candidly spoke about her transformation since becoming a mother and the balance between her personal and professional life.

Deepika, who welcomed her daughter, Dua Padukone Singh, with husband Ranveer Singh on September 8, 2024, shared her thoughts on how her perspective has shifted since then. “I’m discovering this new life post [motherhood]… The minute you’ve had a child, you’re now responsible for another human being,” she said. Deepika emphasized the change in priorities, especially given her previous life, which had revolved around her career and personal ambitions. “Especially in the way I’ve led my life, it’s been so much about me leaving home, my ambition, my career, and everything has been about my life and everything that I wanted for myself, and now suddenly you’re caring for this little thing. That is dependent on you for everything,” she added.

While Deepika has always expressed a desire for motherhood, she admitted that the experience is not without its challenges. “I’ve always wanted to be a mother, so I’m enjoying every bit of that, but I’m now navigating what this new life for me post-motherhood is. That person comes before you. I don’t think I’ve found the answers to that yet,” Deepika shared. It’s clear that she is still in the process of adjusting to her new role, and the actress is taking it one day at a time.

Deepika and Ranveer’s relationship has always been in the limelight, and the couple’s journey to parenthood has been no different. After their marriage in November 2018 in a private ceremony in Italy, they introduced their daughter to the world with a heartfelt Instagram post, which read: “Dua: meaning a prayer. Because she is the answer to our prayers. Our hearts are filled with love and gratitude.”

Despite embracing motherhood, Deepika continues to remain active in her professional life. She is expected to reunite with Shah Rukh Khan in the much-anticipated film King, which also stars his daughter Suhana Khan. Additionally, Deepika will reprise her role in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD and is set to play Lady Singham in Rohit Shetty’s expanding cop universe, keeping her in the limelight even as she navigates her new life as a mother.
