Daler Mehndi to be jailed for 2 years for 'Human Trafficking'

Punjabi singer Daler Mehendi who has been famous for his dancing tracks has been convicted convicted 2 years jail for 2003 Human Trafficking Case.

A Patiala court on Friday convicted Daler Mehndi on charges of running an illegal immigration ring in 2003 and sentenced the Punjabi pop singer to two years in jail.

A leading agency tweeted, "#UPDATE: Daler Mehndi sentenced to 2-years in prison after being convicted in a 2003 human trafficking case by Patiala Court. #Punjab."

The agency also reported that he has been granted bail and tweeted, "#UPDATE After conviction in a 2003 human trafficking case, #DalerMehndi granted bail by Patiala Court."  

In 2003, Patiala police had registered a case against Daler Mehndi, his brother Shamsher and others after complainants alleged that the accused had taken money from them to the tune of Rs 1 crore on the pretext of taking them abroad.

Bakhshish Singh of Balbhera village of Patiala district was the main complainant in the case registered in 2003 at Patiala Sadar police station. Daler was arrested after registration of the case and released on bail after a few days.

In 2006, Patiala Police filed two discharge petitions stating Daler Mehndi to be innocent, but the court had upheld that the singer is prosecuted as there was 'sufficient evidence against him on the judicial file and scope for further investigation'.
