Chinmayi Calls Out Kapil Sharma for Insensitive Joke About Atlee on The Great Indian Kapil Sharma Show

While interacting with Atlee, Kapil made a subtle joke, asking, "When you meet a star for the first time, do they ask, 'Where is Atlee?'" This comment was met with an uncomfortable response from Atlee, who calmly said, “In a way, I understood your question. I’m very thankful to AR Murugadoss sir for producing my first film. He asked for a script but didn’t judge my looks or my capabilities. He loved my narration. The world should learn not to judge by appearance, but by the heart.”

This clip quickly went viral on social media, leading to widespread criticism of Kapil's joke. Among those who expressed their disapproval was Chinmayi Sripaada, a well-known singer in the Tamil and Telugu film industry. Chinmayi didn’t hold back and took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her thoughts.

Sharing the clip, Chinmayi wrote, “Will they never stop these crass and racist jibes at his skin colour in the name of ‘comedy’?” She also added, “Someone with the amount of influence and clout like Kapil Sharma saying something like this is disappointing and unfortunately, not surprising.”

Chinmayi’s remarks resonated with many social media users. One Twitter user shared their thoughts, saying, “Kapil Sharma may be a nice person otherwise, but he makes racist, sexist, body-shaming, homophobic jokes all the time on his show.” Another user pointed out, “His silly question reflects the fair-skin obsession of North Indians.”
