Box office foes Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy stand by Taapsee and Bhumi over Ageism Debate

Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Saand Ki Aankh will be clashing with Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy's Made in China on the box office, however, the two actors have stood by the two leading ladies in the film over the debate of casting age-appropriate actors...

Ever since the trailer of Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar’s film titled Saand Ki Aankh was released, it had sparked a debate online owing to casting age-appropriate actors in the film.  Kangana Ranaut's sister Rangoli Ranaut had revealed that the actress was first offered the film but suggested the makers to cast heroines like Neena Gupta and Ramya Krishnan to essay the elder characters as required for the film.

The film Saand Ki Aankh revolves around the lives of India’s oldest octogenarian shooters, Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, played by Taapsee and Bhumi in the film. The divided debate of casting age appropriate actors in the film had taken the Internet by storm, and many from the industry, including the leading ladies of the film, actress Neena Gupta, Rangoli Chandel among others had commented on the same.

Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, the film releases today, on October 25, 2019, and also faces a clash with another film titled Made in China starring Rajkummar Rao and Mouni Roy. Recently, the two actors expressed their opinion on the whole issue of casting 30-year old heroines to play elder women in their film.

While Mouni stated that it would be unfair for her to comment on the debate as she has not seen the film yet, Rajkummar is of the belief that till the time the actors can convince him with whatever character they are playing in the film, irrespective of their actual age, it’s okay for him.

"The movie has not released. I'm not in a position to say things since I haven't yet seen it. Right now probably, it's unfair and we should keep the debate for when it's released. You need to see their roles and how they have performed first. Before that, judging someone isn't right. I wouldn't want anyone to judge Made In China too based on the trailer so, it's unfair for us to comment on that,” Pinkvilla quoted Mouni as saying.

On the other hand, Raj said, "If the actors can convince me with whatever age they are playing and I know you're talking about Saand Ki Aankh and if I'm convinced by these two ladies who are playing this role, it's okay. It just has to be convincing."

Both the films, Saand Ki Aankh and Made in China hit the theatres today, and the early reviews serve only good news for both the films.
