Mumbai, July 26 (IANS) A small time Bollywood producer-director was arrested for allegedly raping an aspiring actress, police said here Sunday.

Mumbai, July 26 (IANS) A small time Bollywood producer-director was arrested for allegedly raping an aspiring actress, police said here Sunday.

'The accused, Ram Kumar Kumavat had promised a role to the 24-year old victim in one of his forthcoming movies. He had called her for an audition some weeks ago,' according to an official of Versova Police Station.

Later, the girl got no response from Kumavat, following which she called him up three days ago.

Kumavat asked her to come to his office ostensibly to discuss a role with her and then he allegedly raped her, police said.

The producer also warned her against speaking about the incident to anybody, but she went and lodged a complaint with the police last night.

He was arrested early Sunday and has been remanded in police custody till July 29, police said. The victim has been sent for medical tests and further investigations are in progress, the official said.

This is the second major case involving a Bollywood personality in the past six weeks from Andheri West area.

Early June, actor Shiney Ahuja was arrested by Oshiwara Police for allegedly raping his domestic help and is currently in judicial custody.

On Saturday, four activists of Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) were nabbed by MIDC Police for allegedly gang raping a 13-year old domestic help in Andheri East.
