27 years ago, Sushmita Sen made history as she became the first Indian woman to win the Miss Universe title in 1994.
On Friday, Sushmita took to her Instagram handle to celebrate her victory with an emotional post. She shared a throwback picture of herself in a white gown and wrote: “Have you ever stared at the impossible and thanked God for giving you the opportunity to make it possible? I have.”
Celebrating her historic win, she wrote: “To my Motherland INDIA! Happpyyyyy 27th anniversary of India’s first ever victory at #MissUniverse in Manila #Philippines. That early morning on 21st May 1994, not only changed an 18-yr-old’s life forever...it made history.”
Looking back at her journey, Sushmita mentioned Carolina Gomez in her post as she said, “Thank you #MissColombia1994 Carolina @carogomezfilms for teaching me undying grace!! Thank you to all the kind and loving people, from around the globe that touched my life from a VERY young age and inspired the woman I am today!! Eternally grateful I remain! Thank you all for the precious messages and generous blessings...I celebrate with you...ALWAYS!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!”

Sushmita’s boyfriend and model Rohman Shawl also showered her with love as he called her the 'best Miss Universe ever'.
Rohman took to Instagram and wrote: "27 years of glory Thank you (Sushmita) for bringing the crown home and thank you for inspiring us eversince #27years #Bestmissuniverseever."
The Miss Universe 1994 was held at the Plenary Hall of the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay, Philippines where 77 contestants participated.
