Taiwanese actor Barbie Hsu passed away due to pneumonia. She was only 48. It seems she contracted influenza when she was in Japan to ring in the Chinese New Year. News of her demise was doing the rounds since Sunday. Her sister Dee Hsu confirmed the sad news to the media. Barbie Hsu is best known for the show Meteor Garden. She was married to South Korean music producer DJ Koo. The two had first met in 1998 – 2000 and dated for a year. But he had to stop as his agency had banned romantic relationships.

Barbie Hsu was one of the most popular Mandarin stars best known for her show Meteor Garden. The actress will be cremated in Japan while the ashes will be buried in her home nation, Taiwan. She had married Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei in 2011. The relationship apparently soured after he badmouthed the Taiwanese community. Their 2021 divorce was an ugly one. She said her marriage was a turbulent one that caused “two deaths and one serious injury”.

It seems after her divorce DJ Koo contacted her. He said he was glad to know she had the same phone number as before. Their old romance revived and they had a quiet marriage. He told South Korean news that he is in unimaginable pain. DJ Koo also slammed those terming it as fake news. Barbie Hsu’s mother thanked everyone for the outpour of love and concern as the family dealt with the massive tragedy.

The official statement from Dee Hsu to Taiwan's TVBS News read, "During the Lunar New Year, our family came to Japan for vacation. My dearest sister Barbie has unfortunately left us after getting pneumonia, triggered by influenza.” The actress began her career in showbiz at ahe of 17 working as a singer and actress. Fans will remember her best as Shan Cai from the drama, Meteor Garden.
