Babil Khan, son of the legendary actor Irrfan Khan, recently spoke about the pain, pressure, and emotional journey he has been on since his father’s passing. While Babil is gradually making a mark in the industry through his talent, he often finds himself compared to his father or questioned for how he handles his grief in the public eye.
In his heartfelt interview with The Lallantop, Babil remembered the painful day when he lost his father. “When baba passed away, the limelight suddenly shifted on me. I wasn’t ready for that,” he shared honestly. One moment from that day stayed with him forever. “When baba’s body was being taken from the hospital to the funeral, the streets were filled with fans—even during Covid. Nobody cared about the risk. They just wanted to say goodbye. They were crying. It felt so real."
That moment made Babil realise his grief was not just personal, it was shared by thousands. He explained, “This wasn’t just my loss. It was a collective one. So I started sharing memories, hoping to keep a part of him alive for those who loved him.”
However, not all reactions were kind. Babil recalled how some people accused him of using his father’s death to gain attention. “Some people said I was using my father’s death to launch my acting career,” he said. “If that were true, I wouldn’t still be giving auditions today.”
He added that he, his mother Sutapa Sikdar, and brother Ayaan decided together that everyone who mourned Irrfan would be considered part of their family. “That’s why I posted,” he said. “It was never for publicity.”
In a recent interview with SCREEN, Babil spoke more about how he deals with emotions and criticism. “I live my life with full emotions. I cry, I feel the hate, I respond to it too. I’m a shy person, but I don’t shy away from living,” he shared.
Babil’s journey is proof that embracing pain and staying honest, even when misunderstood, is the most real form of strength.
