Bollywood movies have introduced the Indian audience to many exotic locations around the world. Though in the earlier days, foreign settings were exclusively for song and dance sequences, lately they have been worked into the narrative where they form an integral part of the story. Keeping that in mind, BollyCurry brings you a list of the Bollywood films that took the Indian audience up close and personal with some beautiful locations around the world.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) was shot extensively in England and Switzerland. The set perfectly captured the scenic beauty of these locations. As Raj (Shah Rukh Khan) and Simran (Kajol) fell in love over the course of their vacation, the viewers fell in love with the backdrop of the green meadows and gushing rivers with stone bridges. Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge remains one of the best movies where the setting was as important as the story line and the characters.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011) was Bollywood's re-introduction of Europe as the protagonists stepped away from romantic picture postcard journeys to more adventurous sojourns. The skydiving, bull-run event, and the deep sea diving undertaken by the lead characters played by Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar, immensely increased the appeal of Spain as a dream destination for the youth. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara was also the first Bollywood film to feature the famous Tomato Festival, which added to the vibrant feel of the movie.

Table No. 21

The Rajeev Khandelwal starrer Table No. 21 (2013) had the beautiful island of Fiji as the backdrop. The exotic and secluded nature of the location added to the thrill element of the movie. The fascinating landscape with scenic beaches were captured beautifully in the initial sequences where the lead couple, Vivaan (Rajeev Khandelwal) and Siya (Tena Desae), are enjoying their vacation.

Queen

The slice of life movie, Queen (2014), brought to silver screen the quintessential elements of the city of Amsterdam, such as the backpacker hostels, the beer bikes, and the brothels. Through Rani's (Kangana Ranaut) eyes, who spends a part of her solo honeymoon in the city, the audience were familiarized with this tourist hot spot, as well.

Tamasha

The sunny beaches and cobbled streets of Corsica found its way to Bollywood via Imtiaz Ali's Tamasha (2015). Ved (Ranbir Kapoor) and Tara (Deepika Padukone) have a vacation of a lifetime exploring the ragged peaks and castles of this island and introduce the viewers to a hidden gem in Europe.

As film makers strive to make movies that appeal to a global audience, they will remain on the lookout for unique locations that have never been explored by their counterparts. While we enjoy these appealing landscapes around the world via pictures and videos, Bollywood brought us one step closer to the real deal. Which movie helped you find your next holiday destination?
