Are Men being treated as mere props in the daily shows?

Television is a women's world, where men are treated as mere props.

Television surely, is a women's world, unlike Bollywood. Here, there are no kings and Shehenshas of the fraternity, but instead, its being ruled by the queens and princess of the industry. While everyone is busy focusing on feminism and problems related to it, No one really bothered about Men and their portrayal on television. With these female dominant Serials airing all the time, one can't fail to notice, that men are either seen engaging too much in the kitchen politics of the house or are defecated as mere props in the background.

We really wonder, when these serials are launched, these men are introduced as big daddies of the business world.. with big name, fame and fortunes, are then suddenly they have nothing left to do but poke their nose in the household drama. Unfair, yet true.

All the leading men of the television are suffering from a big time 'identity crisis'! We bring to your notice, a few of such macho characters from the prime time slot. Have a look-

1. Abhishek Arora : Kumkum Bhagya

Abhi, the charmer, was launched as a successful and dashing Rockstar who enjoyed a huge fan following of people, raving and drooling over him and his magnificent shows and concerts. But do you remember the last time Abhi actually performed? It seems like the poor Rockstar lost his charm and talent long back, when he got married. Now, we only see him lurking around in the house and struggling between his girlfriend and wife. Sad nah?

2. Siddhant & Prem Bharadwaj : Sasural Simar Ka

As they say, marriage changes your life. It is absolutely true in case of Siddhant and Prem, as their marriage didn't only changed their lives, but flipped over 360 degree turn, overnight! Both these characters are multi talented, ideal and iconic husbands of television. Why? They are mostly engaged in saving the lives of their wives or busy in solving the classic mysteries endangering their families. Perfect Husbands right? We wonder where the huge Bharadwaj family earns their livelihood from?

3. Naitik Singhania : Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai

From the Managing Director of Singhania jewelry empire to a gym owner and now a restaurant owner. Naitik has tried it all! But his favourite profession still remains to be wooing his lady love Akshara. This hopeless romantic can't get enough of his wife and is always seen romancing and seeking attention from her. There is absolutely no business that he can do himself without the significant help of his multi talented wife. Be it preparing modern designs of trendy jewelry or running a restaurant! The lady wears the pants in this house!

4. Ahem and Jigar Modi : Saath Nibhana Saathiya

Ahem and Jigar Modi are the perfect examples of Men being used as props on the show. Hardly, do they get any screen presence and dialogues on the show. The two are mostly seen spectating the family drama from a distance. Women are the rule makers of the house, whereas these poor men are the helpless followers.

Looking at the current scenario, its high time the makers redefine the image of a perfect husband/ lover and do required justice to the portrayal of men in the daily shows. The male characters on TV have to move beyond the house hold dramas and kitchen politics! We need more men-centric serials and strong male characters, which would bring more realistic approach to the serials. Maybe then, we could attract more male viewership on Indian television. Isn't it?
