Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday announced that Tanvi The Great, directed by Anupam Kher, will be exempted from entertainment tax in the national capital. The decision, she said, was driven by the film’s strong message around inclusion and national spirit.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), CM Gupta wrote, “I am pleased to share that the Delhi Government has declared the film 'Tanvi the Great' tax-free in the state. With an impactful narrative of inclusion, the film is an inspiring story of a young, 'special' girl-Tanvi, who is determined to achieve her dreams against all odds.”
She added that Tanvi’s journey is both “emotional and inspirational”, and praised the film’s contribution to awakening a sense of national service and patriotism. “We are committed to promote films that strengthen the spirit of Rashtra Seva, ignite patriotism, and awaken the conscience of the nation. Best wishes to the entire team of the film,” she said.

Earlier this week, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had made a similar announcement after watching the film with Kher in Bhopal. “Today, I had the opportunity to watch the film Tanvi The Great with the renowned actor and director Shri @AnupamPKher ji in Bhopal. I announce that the film will be made tax-free in Madhya Pradesh,” Yadav posted on X.
The film revolves around Tanvi, a young girl with autism, who aspires to serve in the Indian Army. Living with her mother and grandfather, played by Kher, her dream is deeply rooted in her late father’s military legacy.
Backed by Anupam Kher Studios and the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Tanvi The Great features a cast that includes Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Karan Tacker, Arvind Swami, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen.
The film has already drawn international attention, having been showcased at festivals in Cannes, New York, London, and Houston. It also received standing ovations during special screenings at the National Defence Academy and Southern Command in Pune.
