Veteran actor and National Award winner Anupam Kher shared his inspiring life lessons at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. At 69, Kher continues to inspire audiences with his relentless passion for learning and fitness. During his masterclass, he spoke about the role of failure in shaping his success and how he remains unstoppable, even in his golden years.
Kher reflected on his journey, recalling how he debuted at IFFI 40 years ago with the screening of Saaransh. He captivated the audience with tales of his childhood in Shimla and his life's ups and downs. Encouraging the young attendees, he said, “Each one of us is unique. Even our fingerprints prove it! We must find the extraordinary within ourselves.”
The actor shared an example from his film Vijay 69, where he played a 69-year-old triathlete. Despite not knowing how to swim, he decided to learn at the age of 68 to perform the role authentically. “When the director suggested using a body double, I refused. I believed in the journey of my character and learned swimming. It’s possible if we tap into our inner strength,” he said.
Anupam Kher also revealed that he started working out at 60 to stay fit and take on experimental roles. “For the longest time, I relied on my muscle memory for stage performances. But aging taught me that fitness is essential for versatility,” he added.
IFFI 2024 celebrates Indian cinema with screenings of 270 films from 81 countries. The festival also honors legendary icons like Raj Kapoor and Mohammed Rafi. It runs from November 20 to November 28, offering a cinematic feast to movie enthusiasts.
