Ankur Rathee talks about his transformative role in 'Reeta Sanyal': From urban to heartland

From serving looks to serving justice, Reeta Sanyal is here to make you gasp, wonder and laugh - all at once! Disney+ Hotstar recently announced the thrilling drama series, Reeta Sanyal, starring the fabulous Adah Sharma along with the talented ensemble cast including Ankur Rathee, Rahul Dev and Manik Papneja. Lawyer by profession, detective by heart, Reeta Sanyal brings a fresh, quirky twist with a breath of fresh air.

Produced by Rajeshwar Nair and Krishnan Iyer under the banner of Keylight Productions and directed by Abhirup Ghosh, Disney+ Hotstar’s Reeta Sanyal is based on the character created by the acclaimed writer Amit Khan. It’ll be available to watch for free on the Disney+ Hotstar mobile app with new episodes releasing Monday to Friday!

Ankur reflects on his motivation for taking on this role, saying, “I think the reason for choosing this project was a no-brainer for me because playing a police officer has always been on my checklist. I’ve portrayed many characters with a more urban upbringing, but Jai has a more heartland vibe, particularly in terms of his language and accent. This aspect of his character excites me a lot. Jai is North Indian by heritage and has grown up there, much like my Haryanvi family."

He added, "So, it felt like a great alignment of different elements. Additionally, the producer mentioned wanting something very different in a police inspector than what we’ve seen on screen. When a producer tells you, even before you’ve taken the role, that they want to reimagine how inspectors are portrayed, it’s an exciting opportunity for an actor. It means there’s a lot of room for creative collaboration. These are some of the things that really thrilled me about the role. And secretly, I just wanted to walk around the set bossing people around with my fake gun in hand. I think that was also a hidden motivation for wearing the uniform every day and giving orders to those around me”.
