Ameesha Patel recalls Sanjay Leela Bhansali's advice telling her to 'retire' post Gadar

Ameesha Patel is riding the waves of triumph as her latest release, Gadar 2, continues to capture hearts at the box office. Recently, the actress offered insight into an intriguing encounter with renowned filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the Gadar 2 actress revealed Bhansali's profound advice.

Ameesha revealed, post the success of Gadar 1, Sanjay Leela Bhansali extended a heartfelt compliment to her through a letter. Recounting their conversation, she shared that the filmmaker had told her, "Ameesha, you should retire now." A bit confused by his advice, she inquired further, to which Bhansali responded, "You've already achieved in two films what most people don't achieve in their entire career. Once in a lifetime, a Mughal-e-Azam, a Mother India, a Pakeezah, a Sholay gets made. You had it in your second film. So what's next?" 

Despite her initial confusion, Ameesha now began to understand the significance of his words. The Kaho Na Pyaar Hai actress went on to emphasize the accuracy of Bhansali's prediction. She said that Gadar set the bar so high that anything in my films that were superhits after that, whether it was Humraaz, Bhool Bhulaiyaa or Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd, it was a straight comparison to Gadar.

The film is now the third highest-grossing Indian film of the year after Shah Rukh Khan’s “Pathaan” and Rajinikanth’s “Jailer,” and is on track to surpass the latter given its current momentum.
