Singer and composer Amaal Mallik recently shared his views on Bollywood actors lending their voices to film songs. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble, he defended stars like Salman Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, and Parineeti Chopra, emphasizing that intent matters the most.
Amaal explained that actors singing in films is not a problem as long as it’s done with the right intent. He believes both versions should be available to the audience rather than replacing trained singers without acknowledgment.
Salman Khan sang ‘Main Hoon Hero Tera’ with auto-tune, but the original version by Armaan Malik was also released. That was poetic justice.

The composer pointed out that marketing often plays a big role in actors singing for films. He stated that having multiple versions of a song helps from a promotional perspective, but playback singing requires a different level of skill. He cited Anuv Jain’s music as an example, saying it’s great for indie pop but may not suit a Bollywood film featuring Ajay Devgn.
Amaal acknowledged that several Bollywood actors are trying their hand at singing. He praised Shraddha Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra for their natural vocal abilities and mentioned that Jacqueline Fernandez and Shehnaaz Gill are also exploring music. However, he stressed that an actor’s singing should not ruin a song’s essence.
Despite changes in the music industry, Amaal is confident that professional singers will always be valued. He said, “Anyone can sing on Instagram today, but playback singing requires a special connection with the song.” He also mentioned that, despite composing over 125 songs, he has sung only three himself, preferring to let trained singers bring out the right emotions.
Amaal Mallik, known for hits like MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and Kabir Singh, continues to blend soulful melodies with modern music. His take on actors singing in films highlights the evolving music landscape while ensuring singers remain at the heart of Bollywood music.
