Mirzapur has received much appreciation from fans and it is known to be one of the most critically acclaimed series so far. The makers of this much-awaited drama are all set to release the second season of Mirzapur 2 on October 23.

The web-series landed in trouble after the people demanded boycotting the show over actor Ali Fazal’s stand on the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

The tension raised after the second season of the Mirzapur trailer was released. Meanwhile, Twitterverse started the #BoycottMirzapur trend, which made it one of the top trends on Twitter.

During his recent interview with Mid-Day, Ali stated he was sad that people were calling for a boycott of the show as several people were associated with the project. He also maintained “I will not stop raising my voice.”

I feel bad when people talk about boycotting the show because so many people are involved in making it. Sometimes, I have to weigh my options and take a step back for the larger good of others; I don’t want them to bear the brunt of my actions. That said, I will not stop raising my voice. I am an artist in a free world, I am supposed to raise questions. The environment of hate needs to be tackled with peace. We are the country that won its freedom through peace, after all.

Mirzapur 2 stars an array of celebrities including Pankaj Tripathi, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

In his previous interview with Times Now, Ali reacted to the on-going trend and said that we are not at the mercy of a trend and we are not even at the mercy of one app that decides who will watch our show and who will not.

Mirzapur 2 will continue to take a sharp look at the uneasy combination of drugs, guns, and politics in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, where the story is based.

The Mirzapur series is helmed by Farhan Akhtar's Excel Entertainment. And what appears to be the reason behind netizens calling for a boycott is Ali Fazal and Farhan Akhtar's opposition to the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
