Amid rising tensions following India’s military action under Operation Sindoor, the All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has called for a complete boycott of Turkey and Azerbaijan by the Indian film and television industry. The decision, announced on May 15, is aimed at opposing the two countries’ diplomatic support to Pakistan during the conflict.
In a sharp move, AICWA has demanded an immediate visa ban on all artists from Turkey and Azerbaijan. The association has prohibited Indian producers, directors, and financiers from working with professionals or production houses from these nations. All shoots, collaborations, and content deals involving the two countries stand cancelled.
In its official statement, AICWA declared, “This boycott is in response to Turkey’s support for Pakistan during the India-Pakistan conflict. AICWA stands firmly with the Indian armed forces, government, and citizens, prioritizing the nation’s dignity and sovereignty.”
AICWA has also posted a video on its social media urging the film fraternity to honour this directive. The association stated it would actively monitor industry professionals and warned of strict action against any individual or group that violates this order.

In its release, FWICE said, “We appeal to all production houses, line producers, actors, directors, and crew members across the Indian film fraternity to stand in solidarity with the nation and boycott Turkey as a location for film shoots until such time that the country revisits its diplomatic stance and aligns with principles of mutual respect and non-interference.”
Previously, Bollywood has extensively shot in Turkey, with films like Pathaan, Ek Tha Tiger, Baaghi 3, and Dil Dhadakne Do using its scenic locations. Turkey’s tourism board recently reported a 20.7% rise in Indian visitors in 2023.
However, diplomatic relations took a sharp turn after Pakistan used Turkish drones in its failed attempt to strike Indian military sites during the conflict. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting terror camps across the border.
Both Turkey and Azerbaijan are now facing backlash not only from the entertainment sector but also from Indian tourists and businesses reconsidering ties.
