Adnan Sami has hit back at Fawad Chaudhry, the former Information and Broadcasting Minister of Pakistan, after he questioned the singer's nationality following the Centre's decision to expel Pakistani nationals from India after the Pahalgam attack. Chaudhry's comment came in reaction to a post by an Indian journalist on X (formerly Twitter), which highlighted the government's move to ask Pakistani citizens to leave the country in the wake of the deadly attack.

In response to Chaudhry's tweet, which read, "What about Adnan Sami?" the singer wasted no time and fired back, "Who’s going to tell this illiterate idiot!! 😂" His reply instantly caught attention on social media, where many rallied behind the singer for his bold reaction.

For those unaware, Adnan Sami was granted Indian citizenship in December 2015. Born in London to Pakistani parents and having been educated in the UK, Sami's decision to make India his home has often been a topic of discussion. The Pahalgam attack, in which 26 people were killed, has once again brought up sensitive issues between the two nations.

In 2017, Adnan Sami spoke out about the bullying he faced online from trolls in Pakistan. He shared with Hindustan Times how he was often mocked for his decision to become an Indian citizen. "I get sarcastic comments from them saying that 'if you have become an Indian, then change your religion, and become a swami or something like that.' If we go by their logic, then all Pakistanis who live in America should become Christians. Or those who live in England should become Protestants," he had remarked.

Adnan's reply to the trolls reflected his belief in individual freedom and the absurdity of such expectations. "Who are they to tell me that I should change my religion? The biggest irony here is that there are more Muslims in India than in Pakistan. Pakistan is not the torch-bearer of Islam, and if I change my country, it doesn’t mean that I have to change my religion,” he added.

Adnan Sami is a well-known name in the Indian music industry, with numerous hits under his belt, including Lift Kara De, Kabhi Toh Nazar Milao, Sun Zara from Lucky: No Time For Love (2005), and Bhar Do Jholi Meri from Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). His music career spans several decades, with songs like Kabhi Nahi starring Amitabh Bachchan and compositions for films like Dhamaal, Shaurya, Yeh Raaste Hain Pyar Ke, and more.

Despite the controversies, Adnan continues to remain a strong voice in the music industry and stands firm in his decision to live freely and unapologetically.
