Adnan Sami Says 'I Knew This Long Ago' as Pakistanis Express Anger Towards Their Army

Singer Adnan Sami once again made headlines with a subtle yet sharp dig at Pakistan’s military while sharing a recent experience during his trip to Baku, Azerbaijan. Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Adnan revealed how he met some young Pakistani boys during his walk on the beautiful streets of Baku. He tweeted:

“Met some very sweet Pakistani boys while walking on the beautiful streets of Baku, Azerbaijan… They said ‘Sir, You are very lucky.. You left Pakistan in good time.. We also want to change our citizenship…WE HATE OUR ARMY…They have destroyed our country!!’ I replied ‘I knew this long ago!’”

Adnan’s tweet quickly gained attention online, as many users recalled his long-standing criticism of the Pakistani establishment. While his statement was subtle, it carried a strong message. It reflected the sentiments of many citizens in Pakistan who are frustrated with the current political and military leadership.

For those unfamiliar, Adnan Sami was born in London to Pakistani parents and completed his education in the UK. In 2001, he moved to India and made it his home. In December 2015, he was officially granted Indian citizenship. His journey to becoming an Indian citizen wasn’t without hurdles. The Pakistani government reportedly refused to renew his passport, after which he approached the Indian government to regularise his stay.

Back in 2022, Adnan had openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the Pakistani establishment in a long post. He wrote:

Many people ask me why I have such contempt towards Pakistan. The hard truth is that I have absolutely no contempt towards the people of Pakistan who have been good to me. I love everyone who loves me- period. However, I have major issues with the establishment. Those who truly know me will also know what that establishment did to me for many years which ultimately became one of the big reasons for me to leave Pak.
