Blame it on cost cutting or the immense popularity of the actors on the show... actresses playing their own daughters is becoming a tried and tested trend in the Television industry. When we first saw the trend, initially it seemed amusing enough for us to accept it. But we did, as it was a different high for us to see the same actress play two different characters. But with almost every second show wanting to adopt this same old trend, we feel that it has run its course and the makers should try different methods.

Mouni Roy in Naagin 1 & 2

Mouni Roy rocked the Naagin series totally. The actress first played Shivanya in Naagin and then her daughter Shivanya in Naagin 2.

Jigyasa Singh in Thapki Pyaar Ki

Jigyasa Singh, who rose to fame with Colors' Thapki Pyaar Ki first played Thapki and then her own daughter Bani in the show.

Reena Kapoor in Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki

Even though this trend may have been adopted by serials prior to this one, we are sure it was Reena Kapoor in Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki who made it popular. Reena Kapoor played not one but three roles in her show. She first played the protagonist Rani Mittal, then her own daughter Pari and then also Pari's adopted daughter Rani in the show.

Narayani Shastri in Piya Ka Ghar

The feisty actress, who played Rimjhim in her show Piya Ka Ghar, also played her grown up daughter. Whereas Rimjhim was the ever loving, sacrificing female, her daughter Megha is the exact opposite. Narayani is one actress who has never had qualms of playing a mother on screen unlike other actresses.

Tina Datta in Uttaran

Uttaran was one of Colors' landmark shows that had a run of more than 6 years. And actress Tina Datta played Icchha in the acclaimed soap and after an 18 year leap, she played her own daughter Meethi on the show. While playing Meethi, she also simultaneously continued playing Icchha.

Surbhi Jyoti in Qubool Hai

Actress Surbhi Jyoti has already set a record for herself and everyone else for having acted opposite a maximum of 6 actors in her debut show itself. The actress also added another feather to her cap when she played her own twin daughters Sanam and Seher in Qubool Hai.

Drashti Dhami in Madhubala

Fans of the actress can reminisce that Drashti played the role of Madhubala and then post a leap, essayed the role of her and RK's daughter later on.

This trend may have been interesting in the initial times of its inception, but the audience today is mature and practical enough to know that it is kind of silly.
