Actors talk about their sibling relationships & special Rakhi celebrations

Starting as our original companions and evolving into steadfast confidants and ultimate protectors, siblings occupy a distinct and special role. The remarkable bond shared between brothers and sisters is celebrated yearly on Raksha Bandhan. To mark this day, actors share stories of their close sibling relationships and the exciting ways they plan to celebrate this year. These include Aayudh Bhanushali (Krishna) and Neha Joshi (Yashoda) from Doosri Maa, Geetanjali Mishra (Rajesh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan), and Vidisha Srivastava (Anita Bhabi from Bhabiji Ghar Par Hai). 

Neha Joshi, aka Yashoda from Doosri Maa, shares, “Every year, my brother and I eagerly celebrate this festival with immense excitement. I pray for my elder brother's long life daily, and on this special day, I make sure he knows how much I love him. Following our tradition, I draw a square on the floor for him to sit, apply a tilak on his forehead, perform aarti, and enjoy our favourite sweets together. The best part is when we exchange gifts after the puja. I am shooting for "Doosri Maa" in Jaipur this year, so I cannot meet him in person on Raksha Bandhan. But I have sent him a beautiful rakhi by courier, hoping for another wonderful gift from him (laughs). Despite the age gap, our bond is warm and friendly. We often laugh about how he wanted a brother to play with when I was born, and now I've become that kind of brother to him. His unwavering support means the world to me, and I'm forever grateful for his encouragement.”

Vidisha Srivastava, Anita Bhabi from Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai, shares, “In our family, this festival has always been important. At home, our Rakhi celebration means a mix of incredibly tasty foods, from mouthwatering starters to the most delightful desserts made by my mom. Due to my busy schedule and my brother's travel plans this year, we'll celebrate the festival online. I've already sent him my chosen Rakhi along with a small gift. I'm pretty sure he'll love it. He's always been caring and overprotective, and yes, he does try to act like a boss sometimes (laughs). He's been my constant support through everything. Sadly, he won't be here this time, but our bond is strong and not just about being physically present. We'll make the most of it when we meet next time! Wishing everyone a joyful Raksha Bandhan.” 

Geetanjali Mishra, Rajesh from Happu Ki Ultan Paltan, shares, “Every Raksha Bandhan, my dear cousin Rajkumar comes to my home, and I tie a special thread on his wrist. He's like a big brother, someone I can always turn to for advice and share my feelings with. His presence in my life fills me with gratitude. This year, I'm eagerly waiting for him to visit again. I'm so excited to greet him with a bowl of his favourite sweet dish, Sooji ki kheer. Making this kheer from scratch has become a tradition, and in return, he spoils me with lots of chocolates, knowing how much I love them. We both love sweets, making our tradition even more delightful. And that's not all – as a sign of his love, he surprises me with beautiful sarees or kurtas. I can't wait to see what he's chosen for me this time. His thoughtful gestures always touch my heart. I pray that our bond continues to be filled with happiness, understanding, and endless love.” 

Aayudh Bhanushali, aka Krishna from Doosri Maa, shares, “My sister, Smriti, means the world to me, and my love for her is unlimited. Even though she's the older one, she scolds me for my pranks sometimes, but she's also my partner-in-crime when we're in the mood for some fun. Like every year, we'll be part of the family celebrations on this day. I've picked out a special gift that I know she'll adore. Our mom will be cooking up some of our all-time favourite dishes. Every Raksha Bandhan, she surprises me with unique rakhis that I proudly show off to all my friends. I can hardly wait to see the beautiful Rakhi she's made for me this time.”
