9 Forgotten Gem TV Shows That You Can Now Watch on Amazon Prime Video

Some real favorites out there...

Okay, I'll be honest here. When I did the article on some of the forgotten gem TV series that are currently available on Netflix to see; I had to do a lot of research. Even though the Netflix library is as big (probably bigger) than Amazon Prime Video's; the streaming giant has a lot more originals and recent collaborations as opposed to some old favorites.

But today, when I had to search the same for Amazon Prime Video, the options were a lot more. So instead of 7 like that on Netflix, here are 9 (actually, 13) classic shows that you may either have forgotten or miss them a lot and want to see it.

So, you can watch these shows now on Amazon Prime Video-

The Office

Original Runtime - 24th March 2005 to 16th May 2013

Let's start on a good note, shall we? That isn't hard, right? That's what she said. Okay, I'll stop. If you have seen The Office already you would know why did I start like that. In case you haven't, well, what are you waiting for? You should certainly not be missing out on the masterclass of comedy that is The Office. For the ones who are entirely oblivious to the show, The Office is a US adaptation from the original British series of the same name and features the staff of a paper company Dunder-Mifflin that is led by the regional manager, Michael Scott and a flock of employees. Trust me, it is way more interesting than it sounds. Also, have some patience because the show only gets better after the 1st season.

1

Parks & Recreation

Original Runtime - 9th April 2009 to 24th February 2015

Yet another brilliant show from the writer of The Office, Michael Schur - Parks & Recreation is almost as iconic as The Office. The show revolves around Leslie Knope, a mid-level bureaucrat, who wishes to help a local nurse, Ann, convert a disused construction site into a community park, but deals with red-tapeism and self-centered neighbors. But of course, it is a lot funnier and crazier than it sounds here.

Also, if you're like me, there is a chance that you may find your spirit animal in characters like Ron Swanson and April Ludgate. I did.

2

Malgudi Days

Original Runtime -  16th March 1987 to 19th February 1988

Need I say more? The 90s kids will already be jumping on the idea of being able to watch Malgudi Days in its entirety in today's times. Nevertheless, this absolute gem of a show created by R.K Narayan changed the way television was perceived and the tales of little Swami and his friends in the fictional city of Malgudi became a staple to be looked forward to every weekend back then. The sheer innocence, clean comedy and satirical take on issues made Malgudi Days a show that was loved universally. Also, who can forget the iconic 'ta na na, na na na na naaa' tune when the opening credits rolled.

3

Fauji

Original Runtime - 17th January 1989 to 11th April 1989

You'll already know about how this was Shah Rukh Khan's first actual presentation on the screens and how he is currently THE Shah Rukh Khan. However, the series was a lot more than just being the actor's launchpad. In a mere 13 episodes, it showcased a brilliant take about commandos joining the army training school and their life, pranks, and punishments that followed. Not demanding too much of your time, the 13 episodes have an average runtime of just 23 minutes is still enough to have you hooked on to it.

4

Shaktimaan

Original Runtime - 12th September 1997 to 13th March 1999

Say what you want about how preposterous and illogical does Shaktimaan seem now that we are in 2019. But that doesn't rule out the fact that he was the first and only superhero of Indian TV scene that had millions and millions hooked on and how. From fantasizing to being like Shaktimaan to wearing that red-velvet and gold-colored wheel design on the costume, everything about the show was memorable. So, just in case you are willing to relive those days or tell your kids about him, you can now watch him on the streaming service.

5

Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi

Original Runtime - 1st January 1984 to an unknown date in 1984

Yet another fantastic show from the vault of Indian comedy, this show is continued to be remembered for ages. The Shafi Inamdar-Swaroop Sampat-Satish Shah starrer revolved around A married man Ranjit Verma, who lives a middle-class lifestyle with his wife Renu and his unmarried brother-in-law Raja. The misadventures and hilarious situations that they face in life comprised of pure entertainment.

6

Zabaan Sambhaal Ke

Original Runtime - 1st January 1993 to an unknown date in 1994

One of those shows that actually doesn't need too much of a description. Already popular even today and having been remade recently, the show explored the tales of Mohan Bharti, an engineer, who is forced to teach Hindi at a language school. His students are people from all corners of the country and the world, exchanging cultures and lost in translations. With an impeccable ensemble cast and hilarious situations, Zabaan Sambhal Ke remains a treasure that should not be missed.

7

Seinfeld

Original Runtime - 5th July 1989 to 14th May 1998

Before F.R.I.E.N.D.S became what it became, it was the sitcom Seinfeld that achieved immense popularity and love from almost corners everywhere. Going on to become one of the most loved series of all time, where its finale was nothing short of an event for everyone, Seinfeld was about Stand-up comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who wrestles with life's most perplexing yet trivial questions with his eccentric friends George, Elaine, and Kramer. There is a chance you may hate the finale as everyone but the rest 179 episodes are still worth watching.

8

Cartoon Shows

Powerpuff Girls/Dexter's Laboratory/Popeye/Adventures of Tintin/Johnny Bravo

The last mention in this list encapsulates some of the best cartoon shows of all time. It is extremely saddening to constantly accept the fact that the quality of cartoons on TV has degraded to an extent where the current generation of kids have no options to enjoy animation as it should have been. So, to all the 90s kids out there who probably have kids of their own now or in their families, get your kids to watch cartoons as they should have been.
