Your suggestion is plausible, I feel they keep hinting because of her face everytime Meenakshi mentions Kunal.

Parul seems to have more love for Kunal than Abeer

In Ramayana, Lakshmana accompanies Rama on his vanvaas while Bharat rules the kingdom in Rama's name. 😃 😃. That is the only reason why Kunal called himself as Bharat and not Lakshmana. Here Kunal is staying back at home, be that son to her and is trying to be the bridge between Abir and his mom and also the rest of the family. Bharat ruled the kingdom with same principles as Abir. Here too Kunal did not side with his mom completely. He told her that she was wrong. Just like Abir, he too is shown to want to apologize to Kuhu and Maheshwari family. He also asserted that his marriage, the girl is his choice. That he will respect his mom, but will not accept her choice mutely.

The reference to Bharat and not Lakshmana is in reference with Mishti. Abir had the earring which Kunal questioned on behalf of his mom. It is to Kunal that Abir said "think of the girl to whom this earring belongs is your Sister In Law". It is Abir who knows that the earrings belongs to Mishti and not Kuhu. Meenu thinks that the earring belongs to Kuhu and hence rejected her. Neither she nor Kunal know that the earring belongs to Mishti. Kaikeyi sent Rama away so that Bharat can become the king of Ayodhya. When Bharat comes to know, he goes to Rama and asks him to come back saying that the throne of Ayodhya belongs to Ram and not him. When Rama refuses to come back, he tells him that he will take care of the kingdom till the time Rama is ready to come back and take charge of it. He never sits on the throne, but keeps Rama's slippers on it and rules the kingdom in the name of Ram. This is what is being shown on YRHPK. Kunal never choose Mishti, but his mom did. He neither accepted her nor rejected her, just like Bharat. He will care for Mishti during Abir's absence and in that time will realize that she and Abir share a special equation. He will convince his mom to make Mishti the wife of Abir as she is perfect for him. 😃 😃

I have grown up with servants like Parul. They are very loyal to the family and treat the kids of the family as their own. Some of them never marry nor have their own kids too. Parul is such a person, like Katappa in Bahubali.😆 😆 . She treats both Abir and Kunal as her own nephews or sons.
