Abhimanyu was not a badly written character, he was one of the most loved characters of Gen 3 so much so that they had to keep him till the last episode of the gen unlike other Gens where FL spends time with next Gen's FL
Akshara was the only badly written character of Gen 3
For both male characters, FL was compromised
For example - they spoke about self respect of Abhinav and Akshara but they made them stay at places for free
But for Abhimanyu, they made sure to include scenes where he is paying Akshara for staying at her home, also they included the scene where he was paying for resort bills
By the end of it, they ruined Akshara so much that even those Abhinav fans who liked her started hating her
Then continued her degradation in Gen 4, where she was on death bed and Manish refused to speak to her, she died crying
Then there was constant character assassination of her in front of Abhira
Then Abhir returned and they wrote how Akshara turned off her phone and Abhir kept looking for her, they specifically included that Abhir performed Abhimanyu's last rites to give Abhimanyu a closure
The only badly written part of Abhimanyu's character was when he left home and went after Akshara but he died before marrying her so that worked out
As for off screen things, DKP has its favorites, Gen 4 fans are tolerating Vidya, we tolerated Abhinav
Anupamaa fans tolerated Vanraj till Sudhanshu went against RS
Off screen shenanigans do impact things on screen but that has a limit and that limit is channel
