Until now, the writers showed how Armaan’s actions affected Abhira which led to her decisions. For the first time, the roles have been reversed, Abhira’s decision to stand by her brother even after knowing how it’s going to reflect on their marriage. This isn’t about who is wrong or right, it’s about is their love strong enough to sustain despite their actions or is it just an illusion.
Armaan - For Armaan, this case was never about Abhir or even about Vidya when it comes to Abhira. This is always about her not choosing him, hurting him at his weakest spot, Vidya. She knows how important Vidya is to Armaan, it’s not about her standing for her brother, but her going against Armaan, who went against Vidya to marry Abhira. Armaan himself knew there was only one outcome to this court case, his question about what outcome did you expect to Abhira reflects that. Is he wrong in expecting Abhira not fight for her brother, yes but Armaan is never going to go against his family even when he knows they are wrong or support Abhira when his family involved. Despite how he has been treated all his life, they are his identity, almost most of his family loves him, even his grandmother eventually bends to his will. The only time Vidya didn’t stand by him is for his decision to marry Abhira. He has been forgiven after each one of his mistakes, be it leaving Ruhi at the altar, choosing the girl they were against, even keeping the truth about babies. From his point of view, it’s true that he has always fought for their relationship. Every time, his family was against their relationship, he stood strong in his decision that he will win her back and has been successful too. So, his opinion that he is the one who has always put in most efforts to hold onto their relationship isn’t entirely untrue.
Armaan has always been with the fear that Abhira might leave him at any point, Abhira validated his fear by signing the divorce papers. This is a guy who has always lived with the fear of being abandoned by his family, he expected that permanency in their relationship and believed Abhira would fulfill that void. Armaan is cognizant that he has made lots of mistakes, which is why every time he messes up the relationship he goes to extreme steps to make sure he doesn’t lose Abhira again. For a man who has been made to feel like his mere existence is a mistake his whole life, he expected Abhira to be that one person who would forgive him all his faults and accept him as he is; which is why he keeps reiterating he isn’t perfect and may make mistakes again. Ironically, Abhira has been unable to do both for Armaan. Every time, her first reaction has been to leave Armaan and give up on their relationship. He isn’t giving up their love, just their relationship. Armaan knows Abhira loves him a lot and she is right in her place. For a person who has always had to live life according to other’s expectations, their relationship was supposed to be the one where he could be free, but ultimately he ended up in the same place. It’s not surprising that he has finally reached that breaking point and is finally deciding to let go of the expectations.
Armaan needs to understand that their marriage is independent of his family. If he feels Abhira gives up on their relationship every time, he has directly and indirectly led her to make the decision. Most of all he needs to understand that he cannot keep breaking Abhira in the worst possible way and expect to be forgiven after few days of regretting and few sweet gestures, only to end up giving another bigger heartbreak.
Abhira - The biggest strength of Abhira has been her ability to understand other’s point of view, which is why she isn’t angry at Armaan even when she knows she is right, she understands that this hasn’t been easy choice for him as well, especially when she knows how much his family and Vidya mean to him. Abhira’s biggest complaint to Armaan even during their deal marriage has been that their marriage is so unreliable that anyone can make the decision to have them divorced, yet ironically she let the same thing happen now. She inadvertently did the same thing to Armaan, unreliability and lack of longevity, that she may walk out any time. The day she decided to give Armaan and her marriage a chance, she made a conscious decision to accept everything as part of the deal, all the love from family members, place at the firm where previously even woman working was impossible, and mostly the insults and humiliation that came with it. Until now she accepted everything for Armaan, her only real family and this is the price she chose to pay. Goenkas and Abhir coming into her life doesn’t change the fact that Abhira would still accept all this for Armaan.
Until now, she has been the emotionally strong one in this relationship, which is why every time she has been able to make the decision to either leave or choose this relationship. Consciously, she has been always aware that she wants to be with Armaan, which is why she has been able to forgive all his mistakes eventually. The only difference between now and then has been Armaan, the subconscious assurance that Armaan will convince her and will always be there for her waiting. For the first time the roles have been reversed, Armaan has decided to leave their relationship. Abhira has set an expectation to Armaan that she will forgive him every time, despite being given the biggest heartbreaks and betrayals. She made a conscious decision to go back to him every time, but she needs to decide what she wants from this relationship, either she needs to accept that Armaan isn’t going to change, especially when it comes to his family or just walk away once and for all. She needs to understand that their relationship, especially one that’s solely reliant on the equations of other family members, isn’t going to be a walk in the park. If she wants this relationship, she can be upset, she can be angry, can take her time to heal, but by being in the same house with Armaan, rather than walking out and giving up on the relationship every time. Otherwise, as Armaan said they both are going to end resenting each other
