I didn’t watch todays episode but I did come across a scene from it on Instagram (the maahi ve dance sequence), and it caught my eye. Abhi tried to reach for Akshu’s hand in the sequence but Akshu made a beeline to get Aaru to dance. I think it wasn’t so much of her bringing Aaru into the dance that bothered her, it was her not seeing him. Even on their engagement, she looked in Aaru’s direction rather than him, a guy who doesn’t even have his mother with him on his special day.
There’s been numerous posts about why people are watching this season, like what’s got them attached to the show. And I mentioned some of my reasons (my history with the show, the references to earlier seasons, etc.) but I think I forgot to mention this. I’m here for the triangle. This is one of the only shows on itv where the triangle isn’t really two people vying for the same partner (it was like that for a hot sec). It’s a competition between love life and family life, Abhi vs Aaru, in Akshu’s heart. How she balances the two without blindly picking one. If she can stand by what’s right regardless of who she’s opposing. We know she can in some situations (ex. Putting Aarohi in her place and telling her she’s wrong), but Akshu doesn’t do it in a way that’s actionable, it’s mostly words. While words hurt, actions speak louder.
I don’t always like the sisters and their relationship is hella toxic but at the core of it, it’s a relatable struggle - trying to please everyone and balance relationships between different parts of your life. Since the leap, we’ve seen Abhi progress from Akshu’s crush and flirtation to Aaru level status but it’s moments like this that make him, and me, question if they really are on equal footing. While some might find it repetitive and annoying (sometimes I do to, and sometimes I just find it confusing cause there’s so much going on at once with not sufficient attention or focus that I’m like.. stick to one track), I find that conflict fascinating.
We don’t know if Manjari and Akshu are on equal footing cause we haven’t seen a conflict or situation where Abhi has to side with one, but we know Abhi and Harsh aren’t (Manjari will always pick the latter).
