What happens when a neighbour of yours is having a marriage and he asks to accommodate some of their guests ? Maximum ,you are responsible for their accomodation . Are you responsible for lighting ,food day and night and expected to later hand over the bills ? Seems very much awkward ! As food and lighting will be the responsibility of neighbor , you are responsible for their night stay and tea sometimes ,though tea etc. will also be the responsibility if neighbor .So it seems very odd that Mathurs are handing over the bills later to the Shuklas ! What is your take !

True .. its the responsibility of the neighbour. But in this case .. I'm guessing the bills the Mathurs handed over to Shukla were of the decoration lighting and other expenses they incurred during the wedding. Coz when Brij tells Kul that the Majumdars were their guests .. Kul does retort back saying that they were responsible for the accomodation and chai-paani .. but they (Shuklas or Majumdars) need to pay for the rest.
In our community .. the expenses are usually shared equally amongst the bride's & groom's side.
