Hi everyone!

I have a random but very serious question: what is the Gujarati word for "fat"?

I have been wondering this ever since I first learnt that the word "mota", which means "fat" in Hindi, means "big"' in Gujarati, and is used for addressing people, as in the way Uma calls her elder brother Mukhi "mota bhai". (I think I learnt this from the movie Amitabh Bachchan-Hema Malini movie Baaghban when I was younger.)

I would be very grateful if someone who knows the Gujarati language could enlighten me! 😊

And on a side-note, I love that "nano" is the Gujarati word for "small"! ⭐️ it is just so perfect given that "nano"' is used to describe a particular very small scale in Science/English (think nanotechnology - technology on a particular, very small scale).

Thanks to YMMKD for teaching me more Gujarati words (in addition to the very little I had picked up from elsewhere beforehand). ⭐️

And my all-time favourite YMMKD funny scene/dialogue so far is from when Chammo was lost and Mukhi was describing her to Aru and he said that Chammo had "nano, nano singh"' (small, small horns")! And the way Mukhi/Eijaz said it made it so much funnier!!! 👏 I laughed so much at that part that I got a serious ab workout!!! 🤣

Thanks a bunch! ⭐️
And so the word for thin is similar to that in Hindi - good to know!

So if someone wanted to say "I am fat" in Gujarati, what would a female say and what would a male say?

Angelic and Sana, I think I am going to learn a lot from the show and from you! 😊

Angel,

I grew up (and later lived too) in some Gujarati prominent places in Mumbai.

I am a Marathi but did my article ship with a Gurarati (obviously) CA. I have even audited chopdi written in Gujarati. :-D

It is fun to watch this show. I initially assumed the language will be closer to Kutchchi than Gujarati.
