Diwali and Paryushan (strict diet -no root vegetables, no greens, no bread etc -i.e dont eat anything that has microbes on it. the idea behind this is to try to not kill anything, not even microbes unnecessarily). These lasts for 10 days. Some people fast for entire 10 days (no food, water only once per day, that too before sunset) or some people only eat once day.
The last of Paryushan you apologize to your elders, friends and relatives for knowingly/unknowingly hurting them.

I don't know whether other non resident Indians also feel the same but ever since I came to Singapore it feels like whether he is Bengali or Punjabi or from south India, a kind of brotherhood is there. Someone who shares same root as ours when we r trying to survive in a foreign country where culture and language is entirely different. To tell you the truth I started celebrating all kinds of Indian festivals that too with full josh after coming here. Earlier a person from neighboring city itself felt anonymous but now anyone from any part of India feels like our own.

We celebrate all the festivals here. But the most important and exclusive festival at Bihar is the Chhatt Puja
It is a 4 days festival where people nearly don't eat anything

First day Naha kha where the person eats after having a bath and generally eats only once in the entire day

Second day is Kharna when it is a fast (not even a drop of water ) since morning n people eat in the evening only during the time moon is there (it's on 4th day after Diwali/Amavasya so moon is there for very small duration) and while eatine there can't even be a single voice heard or else you need to leave the food immediately

The third day is a complete fast with no food or water. In the evening the people who are doing chhatt would go in water (preferably Ganga river) and worship the sun during sunset it's probably the only festival in the world where doobte suraj ki pooja hoti hai.

The fourth day in the morning after worshipping the sun during sunrise the festival ends

And yes the people who are fasting for this festival aren't allowed to sleep on bed they can sleep of a bed sheet or a blanket etc. And one person can get only one blanket either use it to keep on the ground or to wrap yourself
