"Life is a journey, not a destination."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

My YHM journey started in the middle...on the recommendation by a friend. I watched the 'Suhag Raat' special and used to watch off and on...till the episode where Ruhi calls Raman the 'best Dad in the world' aired. Something touched me...and for the first time in a couple of years I was moved to make a collage about a serial and post it here in IF. Then gradually I got sucked into the moments of Ishita, Raman and Ruhi...and rejoined IF to make regular posts.

The honesty of portrayal of flawed humans attracts me to a story. And the protagonists of YHM come as broken as it can get. They are both flawed, insecure individuals whose growth in character is an amazing journey to watch as well as their journey to each others hearts. This is one story where love journey is more emotional than that of physical attraction that we usually get to witness on Indian telly. And that I think is the most unique aspect of the mohabbatein moments of the story. And amidst all the ridiculousness we have been witnessing of late, it still does not take away the core of the story, Raman and Ishita's journey. That is why we're still here.

And we can't talk about a fictional show if we don't mention its actors. The main leads Karan Patel and Divyanka Tripathi make Raman and Ishita believable even under the most ridiculous circumstances...even if they are onscreen together for less than five minutes some-days, they excite the fandom with their honest, flawless acting which give the fictional characters' emotions a palpable feel that transcends medium and touch our heart. Same is true about the chemistry with their daughter Ruhi, portrayed brilliantly by Ruhanika Dhawan. Together they form the heart which defines YHM.

So here's to many such YHM moments ...

Note:
  • Since the episode unfortunately didn't have much to talk about I made this impromptu post about YHM based on a collage I had previously made.
  • Loved the Jiju's efforts to cheer up a depressed shaali a lot. Other than that it was much ado about nothing episode really for me.

Yaadon ka kya hai, nayi ban gayengi...tumhari aur meri...hamari - Puttar

Puttar is so wise! ❤️ This line from him encapsulates the journey of this beautiful show. I started watching this show a few months ago thanks to mommy dear. She recognized that the inner grandma in me would love the maturity of this show and appreciate the fact that a being a mother has nothing to do with lineage and biological ties.

I do not have to reiterate how much I love this show, it is pretty evident by my fangirling everyday on this forum. I love that the leads of this show are imperfect like us mortals and that's what makes them relatable. I usually stay in the parameters of the characters and never usually comment on the actors but today I will thank KP, DT, Ruhanika and the entire cast and crew of YHM for giving us such a brilliant show to savor.

This is one of the 1st things I had penned down for YHM so I figured I will share it on YHM completing 1 successful year. I am sharing these lines again because it talks about the journey of Ishra and since your quote talks about the journey and destination, I figured let's tie it together lol.The picture below just is the essence of YHM for me! There is so much love and warmth in this picture, the way Ishita is resting her tired head on the shoulders of her little girl while she stares at her Ravan kumar who is busy taking care of the two most important women in his life. *Mushy* *fangirl* *Can't take anymore cuteness*

Aa chal chale is zindagi ke safar pe

Kuch galiyon se hoker kuch kochon se guzar ke

Sunte hau bachon ka chehekna aur kabhi dekhte hua badon ka cheel

Kabhi tede raste toh kabhi seedhi gheel

Kabhi galiyon ke sannate pe zindagi ka shor

Ya kabhi zindagi ke sannate main galiyon ka shor

Jab dhoop uble to main banoga dheema saya

Jab raat roye to tum banna ujalti hui lau

Aa chal chale is zindagi ke safar pe

-By Me

Translation

Come, let's embark on the journey of life

We will walk through a few lanes, and pass by a few corners

We will hear innocent children's laughter and witness adult life's cunning nature

We will pass through some crooked complicated streets and pass by the simplicity of straight of flowing water

Sometimes life will be noisy on the quite streets

Sometimes the streets will bring in noise in our quite life

When the afternoon sun blinds, I will become the soothing shade

When the dark night cries, you become the beacon of light

Come, let's embark on the journey of life.

Can't end the 1 year post without my love for Gulzar saab, yes there is no verbal confession but their eyes have waltz to the ryhtm of love and their heart has raced with the pace of love for quite some time now, so who needs words! Reusing Gulzar saab's nazam but it is just so apt.

nazm uljhii hui hai seene mein
misre atke hue hain hothon par
udte-phirte hain titliyon ki tarah
lafz kaagaz pe baith-te hi nahii
kabse baitha hua hoon main jaanam
saade kaagaz pe likhke naam tera
bas tera naam hi mukammal hai
isse behtar bhi nazm kya hogi

-Gulzar

Gulzar is saying, that a poem is entangled in his heart, the lines stuck at his lips, the words flying around like butterflies, he is sitting staring a paper for hours with only his beloved's name written on it. The name alone is poem for him and there could be no better poem than this for him. Similary, both Ishita and Raman had love at the tip of their tongue but words evaded them today, they tried for hours to profess their love but only managed stealing a few moments of togetherness. And what better poem can there be than those stolen moments of togetherness brimming with love.

PS: I am so happy that I started watching this show because I get to interact with some brilliant people here and get to read some amazing writing. 😃 And to top it all, I get to enjoy your collages! 😊

I really have made this a habit now Unresing so late..
Anyway.. G!! Thank you for this post... YHM really has been a beautiful journey for more reasons than one.. I still remember how when i was on a holiday to India in April and bugged with my mom for watching a number of useless shrieking, shout-fest infested, loud shows!!! and she told me one was different.. I smirked thinking this was her standard line at the beginning of every show.. I sat and saw so i could find a reason to get her to stop watching it.. And i saw the female lead telling her husband he will tell some truth cos she doesnt believe in keeping quiet.. and i was like "waah ye kaisi female lead hai jo chup nai reh sakti" 😆 and the next scene was her going home to a full family and telling everyone her sister-in-law's husband tried to molest her!!😲 Sorry but i came from where all shows showed female leads as women who would tolerate the biggest crimes against them apne ghar ke izzat ke liye!!! This surely made me sit up!!! And over the next week, the way the whole issue was handled left me wondering if EK had indeed changed her storytelling ways!!!

I was now sure i wanted to know more about the show so the next thing i know is i came back and started watching the show from the beginning!! And boy, did i fall in love with it?? Hell, yeah!!! This show made me feel once again that good content is always welcomed! U dont need dangerously dressed, forever scheming characters, you dont need rich boy poor girl/poor boy rich girl difference, you dont need unbelievable twists and turns to make a good show!!!

This past one year too has had many good moments, some not so good and very few bad moments.. But then, when we look back, we must admit the ride has been more fun than bad.. The show has touched on several nice thoughts like inter-caste marriage, infertility in women, effects of divorce on children, beauty of relationships beyond the leads... Its all together made the whole experience more beautiful..

And need i say, the absolute talent i have found here, brilliance in pictures, words, poetry!! i must owe it to all to YHM!! 😳

Thanks Gan for this post and for all the other days.. 🤗

"Sometimes the best journeys are those, that start when we do not plan, continue how we do not expect and are taking us places we do not know." ~Aisha Mirza

"The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step".~Lao Tzu

Gan what a beautiful tribute to the first anniversary of YHM! You are absolutely bang on! Your amazing post and beautiful post through this journey are incredible. Also I would like to thank you for actually giving us a place to come and discuss the best parts of each episode everyday with your amazing collage capturing the beauty of each episode. Most the time your collage enhance the scenes or make them even better. Also a big thank you for replying to each and every response. It is not an easy job specially since your responses are more than just thank yous!!!👏🤗

Coming to the episode, it was a very good anniversary episode. It had all the right elements, light-heart,humour, and a family element to it. I was happy that majority of the cast was shown in today's episode.

It has been just an amazing one year with its crazy ups and downs. The journey of Ishita, Raman, and Ruhi has touched each and every soul that has seen this show. When I first saw the promos of YHM, I was ultimately interested in and I knew it was going to be an different show. And for majority of this journey it has been something different then any indian show I have watched. This show has broken so many traditions about indians shows and have dealt with what is consider taboo in desi society. Infertility , a women's infidelity, divorce, broken engagement, remarriages, step-parents, blood relations, live in relationships, sexual harrasments, etc. This show was so close to real life. From the writers, to the director, producer, and actors, this show was so amazing and so close to perfect. The storylines just drew me closer and for the first time in my whole life I become emotional invested in this show. People who know me, know that I am not the type of person to get so emotional about televisions shows, specially Indian shows. YHM was different I couldn't help but get so emotional invested because I could feel Ruhi, Ishita, and Raman's pain. This was the first show I had seen bits and pieces of myself in each of the characters. Ishita's understanding nature, Raman's caring nature, and little Ruhi's innocence. I have seen myself go through different stages of my life in these characters.

Like I said above the journey of Ishita, Ruhi, and Raman has touched every soul that has watched. Look where it all started. It started with Ishita's pain of not becoming a mother and loosing the love of her life. And then she meet Ruhi who changed her whole world. That scene when Ishita first meet Ruhi was so beautiful shot and acted by DT, with amazing voice over. That scene just gave me chills when I watched it. DT is such a natural actor and it is one of the reasons why Ishita's character seems so real and not some fictional character on television. And lets not forget the bond of Ishita-Ruhi, that was the main attraction to my liking in this show. I don't even have the words to describe this bond. Words like beautiful wouldn't be able to do justice to this bond. I will always remember when Ruhi said she wanted to stay with Ishita instead of both her parents. And then Ishita trying to describe her relationship with Ruhi. That was such a powerful scene and I have never seen anything like that. It was the first time I got so emotional watching a tv show, or when Ruhi first called Ishita mom, or when Ishra were awarded custody of Ruhi. I could literally feel how these characters could feel in those situations. It just felt all so real.

Raman Bhalla-the most imperfect perfect man shown ever. I am not a fangirl type of a girl. I actually hate fangirls. I find them annoying and delusional and half the time I just want to kill these so call fangirl. RKB is one of the characters that made me an almost fangirl. When I mean almost a fangirl, I mean im not delusional about this character put I am just a fan. I always say this about him and I will contiune to say this about him, he is the most imperfect perfect man. He has so many flaws in him but thats what makes him likeable because he has flaws. His flaws make a close to real life man. His character has had the best growth in this show. He went from a angry young father to a loving young father. He always had love inside of him but he never showed it and now he shows it! This guys has so much love and it was sad that a woman like Shagun killed that part of him. And then he meet Ishita, who brought out that potential again. What was once lost is now found again. This women hating man is now deeply in love with his wife.

Ishita Bhalla-one of my favourite Indian ladies shown. I was so glad that have shown flaws in her too because that was what made her relatable. They had shown such a strong, kind, independent, intelligent working woman who knew how to balance work life with her home life. She was a great example for ever women living in India. Her character use to have such a balance in her. Yes she was shown as a working women but she still had indian values in her. She still had a modernism in her at the same time she was shown with traditionalism. Her understanding and kind nature also was the reason that made me love this character. Her pain of not becoming a mother felt like I was the person who could not become a mother. I wish they had shown growth in her character like Raman, but cvs just sidelined her character after the whole Ruhi custody track. This independent woman who stopped believing in love is now deeply in love with her husband.

Now finally coming to Ishra, the couple. To be honest I never thought this couple who would ever fall in love. I was like dang for first time in television history are they not going to show the leads fall in love. They hated each other so much, so it seemed impossible to ever thing something like that. But I am so happy that I was wrong because their journey is heart-warming. Their love for Ruhi may have tied them in the bond of marriage but not their love for each other. Their love is pure because it is the love of loving souls. There was no physical attraction between these when they fell in love with each other. They fell in love with each other's souls. This why this love is the strongest in the whole show. They fell in love emotional first because both of them knew what it was like to feel betrayed in love. Their desire for happiness gave them both a second chance at love. Their journey to falling love is so beautiful shown. Some of my favourite moments are from their ehaas stage. This stage has to have some of the best moments in the shown. How they were in love with each other but didn't know it because of their fears of evening feeling that emotion again has to be one of the most exquisite journey's shown ever. I have seen the fighting couples who fall in love but they are first physically attracted to one another. But with Ishra the physical attraction came after the emotional attraction. From a couple to despising one another to now crazing in love with one another, it has been an honor watching that journey.

YHM is one the best shows I have ever watched. From the writing, direction, camera work, the best leads, an talented child cast(expect adi), and superb supporting cast, this show is top in quality which alot of shows lack. Thank you DT, KP, RD, and everyone else for a phenomenal one year you all have given us.👏

Now I leave you with the title song from this terrific show:

Dil Kahin Rukta Nahi

Heart never stop anywhere

Dil Kahin Rukta Nahi

Heart never stop anywhere

Chalta Hi Jaaye Teri Ore

Keeps walking towards you only

Heart only desires and want to meet see you only

Dil Meri Sunta Nahi

Heart doesn't listen to me

Saari Fizaon Mein Hai

Everywhere in Atmosphere

Mehki Hawaon Mein Hai

In pleasant winds

Tera Aur Mera Fasana

Stories of our love story

Jaanu Main Bhi Yeh

I also know this

Jaane Hai Tu Bhi Yeh

You also know this

Jaane Yeh Saara Zamaana

The world also knows this

Kabhi Kam Na Honge Yeh Chaahatein

Our love for each other will never decrease

Pal Badhe Yeh Hai Mohhabtein

With every moment our love keeps increasing

--EDIT--

Sorry, this seems kind of like a incoherent ramble and it's a lot longer then I intended, as usual.😕 I apologize in advance. 🤡

As always, beautiful post, collage and quote. Initially, I too was expecting a bit more from the episode..not that i was disappointed per se, I just thought it would be a bit more because of the date. On reflection, however, I think this was a great way to mark the anniversary- this episode [and your post] brought about a sense of nostalgia about the reason we are all still watching and fawning over the show, characters and actors. The simple everyday family aspect of it, the way it illustrates the everyday moments and relationships that we all have and show us the potential in those people/moments to be special and momentous- that's where the show began and in that sense today's epi was a direct reflection of the first epi.

Reading the posts there seems to be a 'How I met ISHRARU and why I stuck around through the crazy' theme so I figured I'd share my story too.

Honestly, this is the first Indian and specifically Hindi drama I have ever watched religiously. I saw the promo a couple of months after the show started when I was lost on the internet- I started off on some song and ended in the promo and i was intrigued. I loved the premise, appreciated the *ahem* ... look .. of the characters and was kind of excited that it would be a Tamil/Punjabi cross cultural relationship, being Tamil myself.

So despite not knowing the language, with the help of WU and sub-ed epis I started watching. Now, I got my mom hooked on the show and have learned a basic understanding of Hindi to boot thanks to my obsession.

What keeps me watching despite some very frustrating tracks, questionable fashon choices and the destruction of the Tamil language on the show is the the relationships and charcters. I love the purity of ISHRARU, the 'cosmic connection' between ISHRU(?), the honesty of the RAMRU(?) relationship, the amazing supporting cast on both sides of the families and ofcourse, especially , the slow builldup of ISHRA. Being a romantic at heart I just cant get enough of the flawed hero and the heroine that is destined for him. What I love on this show is that they are both flawed, one is no better then the other and they both help eaachother to be what they need, what the other needs. Raman said that Ishu is his strength often enough but we all know that Raman is just as much her strength too- they need each other, this is a codependency that helps each of them grow and flourish- helps them both be their real selves, their best selves, despite their own insecurities. And despite my frustration at times, i love that the CVs are taking it slow, laying down the bricks and building the house - because real relationship do take time and the slow buildup makes the end result just that much sweeter and stronger.

Princess Ru is the first person that stole my heart - I adore her. I know sometimes she seems to act/speak older then her age [and to be honest I like that because I myself was such a child] but more then the heart of the family and of the show Ru to me is the star of the show. YHM at it's core is the story of Ruhi and her family. ISHRA, the Bhallas, Iyers , Shagun and her gang of jolly villans are all just player on that stage. I just hope that the CVs remember that.

That's why I am still watching, sometimes peeking through my fingers , but still watching- because what YHM does best, even in the most distasteful of story lines - is illustrate the bonds of family in all its complicated, joyful, frustrating, exhilarating ways. 😊 And that's why I will continue to watch.

On that note, since I'm gushing about YHM today let me also say how glad I am to have found so many terrific like minded people on IF- you all make me feel less crazy for my obsession. 😃 I can always find something to smile at even after the most depressing of episodes when i come online, whether it be in the posts or FFs, really appreciate that. So cheers to you all- here's to one terrific year and many more to come. *clinks a cup of rasam*

...And here's hoping that our next celebration on Feb 14 will contain posts that say more then 'I didn't find the episode that inspiring!'😉
