Chapter 1:

Of First Impressions and confessions

It all started, when Mr. Iyer's newly constructed house collapsed infront of him and his family, on the first day they were about to enter it.

A man had sneezed and crows had croacked and even the black cat had cut there path, Mrs Iyer had warned him to cancel the grahpravesh, but being a modern man he had conviniently brushed off his wife's superstitions, and now he had no right to cry and what so ever. And not even the right to ask Mrs. Iyer to stop crying.

She was hysteric and it was understandable, for they said all over the television that it was caused due to the 2.0 mm earthquake, but what Mrs. Iyer had cried for was something more shocking as it would seem, the only house that collapsed was their's, the newly constructed and freshly painted Iyer Niwas.

They took shelter in the nearby hotel for the day and Mr. Iyer searched for the Insurance papers, when found, he directly, without wasting any time went to the insurance company to claim it. And to say the least, God seemed still not pleased with the mess He created, the Insurance company denied the claim saying,"** no claims would be entertained if the property is lost under the Act of God section."

Everything seemed gloomy, they had no home and now even the Insurance company was not helping.

But then, The phone had rung, sweeping them off the mess that there life was in. Mr. Iyer's long lost best friend had finally found them through the news, and now wanted them to live with them.

In evening, Mr and Mrs Iyer reached the bhalla Residence, it was rather a big house than they had imagined in the posh locality of Delhi. It was a brick house with a beautiful and well maintained garden. They rang the bell, and the door was opened by Mrs Bhalla herself. She warmly welcomed Mr Iyer and family, and immediately called for Mr Bhalla whose face broke into a wide grin and Mr Iyer and Mr Bhalla joined in the big hug laughing hysterically, saying nonchalant things, like, "Vishwa bhai, Can't imagine we are meeting after so long!"

"Mujhe toh yakeen hi nahi ho raha ke mai sach mein yahan hoon Bhalla!" Ishita had never seen her Appa so happy and excited, he almost looked like a boy who had met his long lost friend.

"Aur ye aapki beti hai? In real she is more pretty." Mrs bhalla chirped

"Ji?" Ishita looked at her confused.

"Nahi vo news mein dekha tha humne tumhe." Mrs bhalla clarified.

"Oh!." Ishita returned her warm smiled and instantly felt positivity from her.

"Challo tumhara samaan le aate hain" Mr Bhalla came forward.

"Arre nahi, hum le aayenge... zada saman nahi hai." Mr Iyer said.

"Ji.." Ishita backed her father.

"Oh don't worry about that, I have a son, he would help." Mrs bhalla smiled at them, "Happy...Happy Beta, make yourself useful here." she called looking upstairs.

While Mrs Iyer was taken along by Mrs Bhalla and Mr. Iyer and Mr Bhalla went to help with luggage and returned carrying heavy bags and asked her to bring her bag and lock the door of the van.

She went to the van and first took the small teddy and looked at the house and sighed, 'May be everything is going to be fine, After everything had happened, I am feeling positive. Something good is about to happen finally.' She then took her pitthu and hung it on one showlder and then took her own luggage and was about to put of the ground and turn to close the door when a boyish but serious voice came from behind her, "Do you need help with anything? Shall I carry It?"

And It was then when she turned towards the source, she was left shocked and screamed, "Y..You!! Raman Bhalla!!!!!" Her voice laced with astonishment and horror.

Four Days Ago

"... and then suddenly he disappeared, yes I am saying the truth, he diappeared into the forest, and mind you it was so dense that one could not see through it anything except the green, and then it re-appeared and was so white and beautiful, I just wanted to bite it, It was the first time I realised what and how Vampires feel when they have there beloveds near them. Why they bite their neck. Mihika, I think I fell in love with that horse, and then it turned into him, Raman Bhalla." Ishita smiled dreamily. And both her best friends who were just like her *Dumb-heads* slapped their heads and sighed.

"Ishu... again with Raman Bhalla jap? You need help, and take this.." she forwarded her lunch towards her and said, "have it, you might have been exhausted dreaming like that." Mihika said mocking.

"By the way Ishita, have you arranged your new house? when are you planning your house warming party?" Vandita, who was an introvert with exceptionally nerdy glasses asked with a soft smile.

"Aah... Almost. Amma has to do everything as Appa is busy with the Restaurant. Its going to take few days till it will be completed." Ishita answered with a smile.

"Why don't you ask Subbu to do that for you? He was looking at you all the time during shalini miss's class." Mihika said naughtily.

"No he was not.." said Ishita shyly.

"Yes he was... I am telling you, forget RKB and look at Subbu, he is well suited for you... and he's just like us", Mihika said nibbling her veg rolls.

While they were discussing all this, Girls around them started to giggle and combing their hairs with fingers and some started straightening there skirts and few even rolling down their socks to show off their long legs.

Ishita, Vandita and Mihika looked around perplexed and then walked the man for whom all the hustle bustle was for.

"Dhak-Dhak" her heart started to beat fast, she felt like she was going to get a heart attack. Mihika and Vandita looked at her with open mouth.

He turned towards the soft drink vending machine, and walked with a elegant gait. As he reached there, a skiny but stylish girl with long hair went and stood beside him, and smiled and said, "hey Raman. I heard about your scoring highest again in the comparatives. You are perfect, congratulations."

But he looked at her disinterested, then she smiled and clarified, "I am Sonali, Sonali Kotnis"

And then she faked a giggle and said, "Say hi to your mom.. my mother and your mother are friends, just a week ago we had come to your house."

His irritation was evident on his face and he pressed the button for coke again. But it just didn't and then she again intervened, "O God! Its still not coming... 1 min"

"Ishita... Ishita of 12th-E", she called, breaking Ishita from the thoughts of the one she was standing beside, and shocking her to the core. "She helped me yesterday when I was trying it... Ishita... come quick we are waiting..."

She closed her eyes tightly while Mihika and Vandita were too shocked at her demand of helping them or rather embarrassing Ishu and her friends infront of the mighty RKB.

But she stood in turmoil, of whether to go and help Sonali and RKB or just ignore, but one look at RKB's serious expressions gave her strength to put up and help them so she slowly got up, trying to maintain her demeanor of the most courageous that she was infront of the face of danger for her friends.

She stood close to the machine, putting her ear near it knocked, like she had been doing, it was their secret and they couldn't let it out. It was an action that was a secret of the whole fiasco. And then moved backwards and closed her eyes tightly and then, kicked the machine with full force, and then they heard the cold-drink-can dropping out of it, while RKB stood their shocked staring at her in astonishment.

While she stood there, looking everywhere but at him, Sonali bend forward and took the Can out and handing it to Raman, said in a flirtatious way so as to capture his whole attention; So what are you doing this Sunday?" she said, while he looked at her disinterested and started walking away while she followed him, trying to show off her rapport with RKB to other girls, while Ishita stood there still in shock of seeing him from this close for the first time.

It was then, seeing her friend's helplessness, Mihika screamed her name, so as to get his attention,

ISHITA!!

ISHITA!!

II SHI TA!!!!

And then he turned and walked towards her and stood just infront of her, while the chit-chit and all hushed voices stopped and then he turned on his heels and bend down and took his coin piece that had dropped in the process of her hitting the machine. And then he stood up and walked off leaving a shocked all the people that were still looking at them.

After a while, while sitting in the common study room, that looked more of a mini circus where some boys were as it seemed discussing the girls they like while others where whiling away time, and some were playing drums out of courtesy, showing to all the other students that passed it that they were the infamous class 12^th E, the most notorious of the lot!

Only two girls were sitting quitely, one of them being the geekest of the lot, Vandita and the other who was a day dreamer, Ishita Iyer.

"Are you planning to waste whole of the last year like that? Why don't you just confess?" Mihika said while coming up to her with a hairbrush in her hand that she kept combing her hair with.

"Confess?" Ishita looked at Mihika wide eyed.

"Yes a confession, this is the time you can use and tell him how you feel, after it who knows if you'd ever meet him ever again, if you'll just let this chance go like that you'll regret whole life." Mihika continued.

"A confession! Yes! Why I didn't think about that before... I should have confessed earlier, maybe he doesn't talk to me because he is too shy... but how I am going to confess? I mean my confession should be such that he remembers whole of his life..." she seemed to talk to herself, like in deep thought.

Then she turned towards Vandita and said, "Hey yaar vandu, you tell me something na... how should I confess? You read so many books..."

For a moment Vandu looked deep in thought and while other two looked at her hopefully.

"Why don't you write him a letter" She said with a smile.

"Letter?" Mihika exclaimed in surprise.

"Letter... but I am poor in letter writing, I got 2/10 in 10^th don't you remember" Ishita said sadly.

"I am not of letter writing Ishu... I am talking about writing a Love Letter to him, you can write all you feel and you know give it to him." Vandu said with a smile.

"Ohh yes!! That a great Idea!! Okay guys... I am leaving its already time, I'll see you tomorrow..." she ran back to her class while the bell rang announcing it a day.

Next morning, she arrived little early and kept the letter between the parting of his locker, and smiled shyly and went away to her class.

Whole day she waited but she got no response, it seemed like he hadn't read it yet.

"Had you written you name on it?" Mihika asked while fondling her tress between her fingers.

Ishita nodded.

"And your class name?" Vandu asked.

She again nodded.

"..and you phone number?" Mihika again piped in.

"Yes guys!" Ishita sighed, "I have written everything but it seems he hasn't read it yet.

The other two nodded at the thought. When they saw the boy in question entering the canteen area. The trio sat up straight in anticipation and a tinge of excitement and fear, but shocking them and throwing one glance in their direction a little longer than necessary he started to climb the stairs.

This was too much!

Mihika once again screamed her lungs out to gain his attention.

ISHITA!

ISHITA!!

But he just walked off ignoring her screams, she slumped down but then to their surprise they heard a voice addressing Ishita.

"Ishita?" the voice was loud and clear and it had every ounce of confidence.

The trio and others present looked in his direction, he was standing on the next floor bear the bars and looking down at her intently without any smile, but rather his face was serious.

She gulped.

"Are you Ishita Iyer?" he asked again.

She nodded and smiled uncomfortably.

He walked down the stairs and stood infront of her for a moment, looking at her intently, and then he took out a piece of paper from his left pocket if the pant and handed over to Ishita.

Though surprised she did recognized her own letter and looked at him confused, and asked, "I wasn't expecting an answer... Do you want me to open it?"

He nodded. His face was serious, no trace of mirth.

"Now?" she again asked

He nodded again.

She slowly opened it with a smile and as she looked into the letter she was shocked, her face drained color and she looked at him wide eyed, like she had seen a ghost.

While she was still in shock, Sonali came from behind, totally pissed seeing her love-interest with a dimwit Ishita, and snatched the letter and looked at it in surprise and bowled in uncontrollable laughter. And started to show every one what was in the letter...

"Oh My God!! Ishita wrote a Love letter to RKB!! And guess what guys, she got graded on it, she got a D!!!!!!" she shamelessly flaunted it to every one present.

While she was doin it, Ishita's eyes filled with unshed tears, her heart feelings were being laughed at, everybody was making her fun and the guy whom she loved from past three years was causing it. She just wanted to run away from it, from them, from him at that very moment.

"I am sorry that it caused so much of drama, but let me make myself clear." Raman said in very arrogant tone, "I detest such type of girls who are so dumb. They disgust me to the point that I, not in any way want to be associated with them." That said and he was about to go when a thundering voice of none other than Subbu filled the place.

"What is going on?" he asked as he snatched the letter from sonali's hand and read the content and angrily marched towards RKB and stood infront of him.

Subbu was couple of inches taller and was well built. He was not ugly to look at but his dumbness casted a severe damage to his looks. His hairs shaggy and from the look of him, he gave a look of a rogue.

"How dare you insult her and her feeling!" he said in a loud voice, "Apologize immediately."

"Apologize you say?" Raman turned and smiled sarcastically at him.

"Yes! Apologize right now!" Subbu once again said in a warning tone, and then stepped forward on seeing Raman smile and fold his hand like waiting to see what Subbu can do.

Subbu was about to hit him when he dodged his punch and when he was about to throw a second punch at Raman, their Vice-president came and scolded Subbu and asked him to apologize to Raman because for him he was the greatest asset they ever had in the school, and he was like the miracle that had happened to them and that he doesn't want to lose him and also said that where as Subbu was the notorious of the lot and if he again did something like that, then he would definitely be thrown out .

And with that he left. And so did others, while Raman turned with a smirk and looked at Subbu and then at Ishita and walked off.

Ishita slumped off and her friends came to her side, consoling her why silent tears made their way down her cheeks.

It all had happened in a day, she was mocked by her first ever crush and then she lost her house to earth quake that only selected her house leaving others safe. Her life was in mess.

While she was entering, she heard a loud voice coming from the entrance of the building, as she went near she was beyond shocked, as she saw Subbu was addressing the students for collection of fund for her, as she had lost her house to earth quake and this was not all but he called it a love donation from him to her!

What the heck' she exclaimed and try to walk past him without getting noticed when Subbu caught her and asked her to join him. It was then they saw Raman cross them and Subbu went forward and asked him to give money for donation and help him to help his(Subbu's) love as she had lost her house previous day due to minor earthquake.

He took out some money and handed over to him, but then subbu shocked said, "That it! Only this much"

Then Raman was about to take more and dump it in the donation box when fully enraged, due to humiliation Ishita came forward and said, "I don't want your help, any kind of help from a guy like you would demean my self-respect." She said and folded her hands to her chest.

Raman kept his money back into his wallet and was about to go when, "Raman Kumar Bhalla! You are so arrogant, I was a fool to like you, you think you can look down at us 12^th E. We can do as better as you do, Its just because we dont study and that is why we don't score good. And I can prove it to you any time that we are your equal in every way."

While Raman stood there, and smirked and said, "Oh! Really? Than prove it!"

"What!" Ishita looked at him wide eyed, she had not expected him to say that.

"Yes... you heard me. Prove that you are worthy of my notice, prove on something."

"On something?" she was caught and she knew it, but now she can't back off, this would demean her class and her teacher. She has to say something.

"Okay, I am going to prove my worth on the exams, the comparatives. Top fifty." Ishita said, with her head held high.

"Comparatives? Next month comparative?" he asked as if in mockery.

"Yes! But what if I do succeed?" Ishita asked.

"Then I'll date you next of the session." He said simply.

Her eyes widened and so did the others who surrounding them.

"What are you talking about... she is not going to date you..." Subbu said in between.

But without giving heed to Subbu both smirked at their own thoughts and went their way.

(Flash-back ends)

Present day.

"What are you doing here?" she asked afraid of the answer, but she knew the answer already and she closed her eyes in defeat and thought, Why this Bhalla had to be him...'

While he just smirked, knowing full well that she knew it was his house but he again asked, "Do you need any help?" and then continued as if remembering something, "Oh... I forgot, you said you would never take my help as it would demean you self-respect!" and with that without waiting for her response, he walked back in, leaving a shocked Ishita, whose mouth was opened in a big O.
