I know I'm a little late 😭😭😭 but I couldn't help it. My classes have started and I find very little time for myself. So, I decided to end this ff. It will have about 5 more chapters😳😳😳. Thank you Guys for all the love and support. 👏

Breath of Fresh Air

Chapter 13

[Be-rang si hai badi zindagi, kuch rang toh bharu
mai apni tanhaayi ke waastein ab kuch toh karu]

It was the usual sleepless night for him. As he tossed and turned in his bed, the gravity of the declaration he had made to himself earlier in the evening struck him. Yes he was in love with her, he grinned foolishly at the thought as he hugged his pillow tightly. His thoughts unwantedly turned to the one woman he had once fallen in love with, his ex-wife. He shut his eyes trying to shut off the deception. He knew Ishita was nothing like Shagun. Even before he fell in love with her, he trusted her more than he ever trusted Shagun. He didn't want to think about his past, he wanted a future now something he didn't think was possible a few months ago. He wanted her in his life more than he had ever wanted anything. He knew he was behaving like a teenager, but this was the happiness that he deserved, God owed it to him.

His thoughts turned to her, her sleeping in his arms, her waking him up, her smiling at his silliness, she was everywhere. He wondered how he never noticed it before that she occupied so much of his mind these days. On a second thought, she hasn't behaved normally ever since that night. The thought of that night ofcourse brought fresh adrenal rush in his body, memories that he has been recollecting in bits and pieces. Now that he knew it was love, that night seemed even more beautiful and she seemed more gorgeous. He knew he had a lot of hard work to do if he ever wanted to make her love him back. He sighed and closed his eyes, silently making plans of wooing her.

She sat by the window of her room as she watched Ruhi sleeping peacefully on the bed. This has been a routine for the past few weeks. She had cried herself to sleep and today was no exception. No matter how much she tried, she couldn't forgive herself. Her thoughts turned to the crazy step she took this evening. How could she even dream of having a baby? That too Raman Bhalla's baby, the man she wanted nowhere in her life. Yet, the irony, he was currently everywhere in her life.

What was she thinking when she went to the hospital? She didn't want that night to affect anything in her little world. The mistake was not his, and she knew that, and it hurt more when she couldn't even blame him for the situation. She had Ruhi, life has given her more than what she could dream of. She felt ashamed of herself; the way she behaved with Raman this evening was unacceptable. The comfortable closeness that has slipped into their relationship bothered her. She has to apologise, she decided, the final talk that would give a closure to their so-called-past was important now.

Raman grinned cheek-to-cheek as he received a sms form Ishita that she would be waiting for him in the terrace that evening.

He slowly closed the door of the terrace as he silently walked towards her. She was standing with her back to him, leaning on the terrace, looking at the moon. He stood by her, with his hands in his pocket.

"I thought you wanted to talk" he said when she didn't bother to acknowledge him

She looked up at him, unsurity written all over her face. He took a step forward with a worried look; she took a step back in reflex.

"I just wanted to say that, I am sorry for behaving like a fool last evening" she muttered

"Who said you behaved like a fool?" he asked

"Ofcourse I did. How could I hope for a baby and that too your's? I am extremely ashamed about what I did" she hung her head

"What if I tell you that I wanted that baby too?"

She looked up at him shocked "why would you want another baby when you have Ruhi?"

"I could say the same for you" he argued back

"You won't understand, I wouldn't ever know what it is like to give birth to a child, its not the same for you" she said

"You won't understand, I wouldn't ever know what it feels like to raise a child, its not the same for you" he imitated her "So the gist is that you want what I have and I want what you have"

She smiled humourlessly "Irony" she said and turned to leave when he held her hand from behind.

"leave my hand" she said

"what if I don't?" he asked

She turned back and stood face to face with him "I don't understand, why are you doing this? I said I don't hold you responsible for anything, Just leave me alone and stop feeling guilty"

"Who said anything about feeling guilty"he smirked at her

She looked baffled "then why are you behaving this way?"

"You really want to know?" he asked, and then pretended to think for a while as she shook her head in positive. He pulled her closer to him, his hands on her waist, he looked into her now wide open eyes and said "ummm... because I want to behave this way. How does that sound?"

"That sounds stupid and absolutely makes no sense" she said as she tried to push him away unsuccessfully

"Perfect sweetheart, It isn't supposed to make sense either" he said "By the way didn't I tell you to wear a saree? Why are you wearing this boring suit?" he made a face

"And why should I wear what you like?" she asked angry and confused

"Because my dear Ishu, if you wear this to work, I'm afraid I'll have to shut down your clinic"

"dare you do that"

"Of course I'll. I don't want all your patients to have the view that I had the first day I went to your clinic"

She looked puzzled "What view?"

"you don't want me to say that do you sweetheart? A view that only I have the right to see, now obey what I say and wear a saree from now on" he winked at her and left.

She opened and closed her mouth like a fish but no sound came out of her throat. She was sure that this man will make her crazy with his antics. Only if she could find the reason behind it, she could have taught him a lesson, she thought.

Next morning brought new surprised for Ishita, she opened her eyes to see a huge stack of gifts shoved at her bed and Ruhi sitting there with confused eyes.

"Yeh kya hai Ruhi?" she asked rubbing her eyes and yawning

"Mujhe kaise pata hoga Ishita aunty. Bahar koi aaya tha aur yeh gifts de gaya aap ke liye. Dekho isme naam bhi likha hai aapka" Ruhi showed her "Jaldi kholo na, mujhe gifts dekhne hai"

Meanwhile Mrs Iyer too entered the room enquiring Ishita about the gifts

"Mujhe kaise pata hoga amma, maine bhi toh abhi dekha na" Ishita replied as she tried to open the gifts.

Once the gifts were opened, Ishita knew who sent the gifts. Her face slowly turned red, anger? Blush? She had no idea what it was but right now there were two ladies waiting for her explanation.

"Wow itne sundar sarees" Ruhi wondered aloud

"Ha Rui kitne sundar hai na? Ishu kisne bheja yeh" Mrs Iyer questioned

"Ha Ishu, kisne bheja yeh?" Came a voice from the door

Ishita closed her eyes as he appeared smirking into the room, Ruhi immediately jumped to his lap

"Arre Raman beta tum yaha?" Mrs Iyer asked

"ji auntiji woh Ruhi ko lene aaya tha" he lied smoothly "Waise aaplogo ne bataya nehi ki aaj Ishita ka birthday hai. Sorry, mai koi gift leke nehi aaya" he said innocently.

Ishita fumed.

"Arre nehi aaj birthday nehi hai iska" Mrs Iyer said "Bata na Ishu kisne bheja? koi secret admirer ne toh nehi bheja?" Mrs Iyer looked hopefully at her

Ishita was embarrassed as Raman went on smirking "amma" she complained "kuch bhi bakwas karte rehte ho aaplog. Yeh sarees na maine hi mangwaye the. I wanted to change my wadrobe, thats it" she lied smoothly as her eyes threw daggers at Raman.
