Hey guys I am back with another IshRa scribbling of mine and this time my inspiration is the sudden "extreme concern" Ishu has been showing for her patidev from the past few months. As we even saw in yesterday's epi, just the slightest of pain to him and she becomes super anxious trying to ease every discomfort of his. She just cant handle to see him in any sort of pain. And that is probably what motivated me to write this.
Warning - Though I always write simple heartfelt stories and mature stories are totally not my cup of tea but some parts of this OS might be inappropriate for a section of the audience. So read at your own risk đ
Reaching out to you - Part 1
Ishita woke up with a jolt. It was still some time to dawn and it rained heavily outside. She flinched at the gust of the wind that slammed into the window. The weather had changed suddenly and it felt colder than normal. Alarmed, she switched on the table lamp and whirled to face a sight that sent a shiver down her spine. Raman was lying on the bed clutching tightly onto his pillow and shivering badly. She had covered him with two comforters as the doctor had already warned against a chance of a sudden escalation in his temperature at night but right now both the comforters lied on the floor leaving his body uncovered. She immediately ran out of her bed and bolted the windows to stem the chilly winds from coming in. Convinced, the windows were done tightly enough she ran back to his side and laid the comforters back on him, covering him from head to toe. Making sure not to disturb his sleep, she quickly took his wrist in her hand and felt his pulse. A crease of worry formed between her brows. He was surely running a high temperature. She could almost feel his body radiating heat. Seeing him in such fragile state made her more anxious than ever. And being a doctor herself didn't help either. After all the person in pain was no one else but Raman, her husband. The man who had done something so magnanimous for her today that even a lifetime of gratefulness would be less for him. The thought was enough to push her in a whirlpool of flashbacks and crushing emotions she had gone through the day but she brushed the disturbing thoughts aside seeing how much her husband needed her sanity at the moment.
Just as quickly as she had left the room, she returned back with a bowl of ice cold water and some fresh napkins. He had been kept on heavy doses of painkillers and antibiotics that had probably caused him the fever and she needed to lower his temperature as quickly as possible. Soaking the flannel in ice cold water she gently placed it on his forehead. Without realizing what she was doing, she began to stroke his hair just the way she does it with Ruhi's hair when she's asleep.
These days Ishita had begun to feel amused at her growing fondness for him. The slightest of his smiles would fill up her day with brightness and positivity while the slightest of his pain would make her restless. Anything and everything that concerned him affected her the most, especially if it had anything to do with her or their relationship. And probably that was the reason she had ended up throwing a fit when Raman had told her about losing his engagement ring.
Ishita took out a needle and a vial from her bag and filled the syringe with medicine. The doctor had asked her to administer him a paracetamol injection in case his fever wouldn't go. Being as careful as possible she gently turned him on his stomach but almost flushed at the sight of his pajama clad behind. This was a restricted access zone for her but unfortunately duty beckoned. With slightly trembling hands she reached for the elastic of his pajama and worked it down slightly to expose a spot on his baby soft butt. Being in that arousing situation she could feel the adrenaline coursing through her veins. Her fingers brushed against his soft satiny skin sending an undercurrent down her spine. For a second she felt all her defenses melting down but realizing the urgency of the situation, she swallowed a thick lump in her throat. Now almost fondling his soft and downy skin, she sterilized a spot on his bare back and pierced the needle in, wincing at her own gesture. As she sought to remove the needle, Raman stirred restlessly in his sleep. She almost flinched seeing him in pain. Heaving a deep sigh, she gently rubbed the spot with soft hands to ease away all the pain.
Once done with the injection, Ishita disposed the needle off and settled Raman safely in his bed. His temperature was still above normal but shivering had been controlled to much extent. He had finally dozed off to comfortable sleep and his body didn't tremble any longer. She sighed in relief and switched the lamp off, allowing her back to lean against the bed. It was really a long and exhausting day.
She had closed her eyes, willing herself to stay strong, but she just couldn't. The events of the day, the sounds, the fear of almost losing him forever, everything played in her mind like the scenes of some slickly edited movie. The unsettling noises of her own fury and the flashbacks of his hurt, distraught face still rotated in front of her eyes. She felt tears prick the corner of her eyes as the hurt in his tone still echoed in her ears.
"Ishita I really didn't know when that ring slipped out of my finger. But why are you being so hyper about it. It's just a ring" he said trying to avoid her gaze.
"Just a ring? Raman how the hell can you be so casual about it. That was not any ordinary ring. It was precious to me. To my amma and appa. Amma had gifted that ring to appa on their 25th anniversary and he gave that ring to you with so much of trust. How can you be so careless about it" she said in a tone much harsher than usual, oblivious to her in-laws who could very well hear their noises.
"Ishita I am sorry yaar. And it's not that I lost the ring willingly. Now I can't do anything about it. So can u please stop over-reacting" he shook his head exasperated still looking away. She was sure he hated this confrontation.
"You know what Raman, it would be better if you leave me alone right now. Because this casual attitude of yours is really sickening" she declared and left the bhalla house seething in anger.
"Ishita stop...I am telling you na...listen to me Ishita" he called out but she had already left for the Iyer's place.
And what happened next was what Ishita could have never imagined in the worst of her nightmares. Slamming the metal gate behind her she walked upto amma and appa and shared with them what Raman had done to their precious gift, totally unaware of the shock she was in for.
"Ishu what did you do?" Mr Iyer brooded in worry.
"Appa you are asking this to me? You should ask this question to your beloved son-in-law. He lost your wedding ring. That was precious to me...to us. I told you na not to give him that ring. He just cannot value other's emotions" she told, disappointment settling in her tone.
"Ishu beta it's not like that"
"Then what is it appa? Why you have to take his side always?"
"Because he did not lose the ring! It was me who lost it" Mr Iyer declared, trying to look away and save himself from the glares of his wife.
"What are you saying appa?" Ishita was baffled.
"Ishu Raman gave me that ring to get it repaired as it was loose on his finger but before I could take it to the jeweler I lost it somewhere. And he did not tell it to you because I requested him not to do so else madhu and vandu both would be so angry at me."
A wave of extreme guilt overpowered Ishita and her hands flew to her mouth realizing what she had done. He was trying to calm her down and explain his stand but she didn't even give him any benefit of doubt. She felt miserable to have caused him so much of hurt. Seeing Raman waiting for his car in the society parking, she quickly ran downstairs to meet him. She needed to apologize to him right now. But much before she could even reach near, she saw him run on the other side of the road. Unable to fathom the reason for his sudden gesture she ran behind him but to witness the most horrifying and gruesome moment of her life. Raman had been run down by a speeding car as he attempted to save a pregnant Vandu.
