they are so old and unhappy in their own lives
so why wait any longer and destroy more brain cells

I don't think so. They hardly started getting to know each other . I think for a relation the most important thing is respect understand and feel for each other. I think they still need some time before getting physical .

I think the other way round ie sxx can bring them closer
it can increase their feelings for eachother
they are in this together so why time it afterwards
